CSW BREAKING: "Fully-Engulfed" House Fire in Holden MO

At  7:14 p.m.- Holden firefighters as well as companies of Johnson County MO's "Western District" stations were called to the 200 block of North Mary in Holden on the report of "a fully-engulfed" in fire house.

This information was confirmed by first-arriving fire crews at 7:22 p.m.- and additional help has been summoned to the scene.

It's not known yet the occupancy status of the structure- if anyone was still inside or if there were any injuries at the scene as this is a working incident.

There are also reported to be "live power lines" down at the fire.

More as/if received....

CSW WEATHER: Snow Increasing

Doppler weather radar indicates snow is increasing upstream from Metro Kansas City.

Snow and blowing snow will increase in intensity over the next several hours over Metro Kansas City- particularily on the Missouri side- with roads probably becoming increasingly slick and hazardous.

Winds and falling temperatures will also become a factor overnight- as the snowfall should decrease in intensity locally after midnight.

CSW BREAKING: House Fires at Lake Lotawana- Grandview

Not too many details on this incident yet- but firefighters from at least 2 other fire departments are helping Lake Lotawana MO fire crews in battling a reported house fire in that south-central Jackson County area.

The fire is reported to be in the 1100 block of Lakeshore Drive at Lake Lotawana- and fire crews from Lee's Summit and the Prairie Township Fire Protection District are helping.

Also- Grandview's fire department is in the mop-up stages of a fireplace "flue fire" in a structure in that city- location is not yet known of that fire.

Weather conditions are deteriorating in the Metro- with an increase of snow and winds throughout the evening- along with dropping temperatures and bitter wind chill factors.

No Injuries in Liberty MO House Fire

This fire was reported at 6:04 a.m. when all 3 Liberty fire stations reponded to the 500 block of North Clayview where a house was reported on-fire.

Fire crews arrived at 6:10 a.m. and received a report of a person possibly trapped in a basement bedroom there- but searches of the structure didn't find any bodies.

A KC-MO fire company was sent to the scene to help- and this fire was reported under control by 6:30 a.m..

An investigator is on-scene to determine what caused this fire that heavily-damaged the structure and it's contents.

CSW BREAKING: Three KC-MO Firefighters Hurt in a House Fire

The good news is that the injuries to the 3 firefighters are non life-threatening.

The trouble began with the dispatch of the house fire in the 5600 block of Holmes at 5:38 a.m. Saturday morning.

Pumper 29 rolled-in at 5:42 a.m.- reporting a "working fire" and went inside with "a handline."

At 5:46 a.m.- the firefighters on Pumper 29 report "a mayday-"  they are reportedly trapped inside on the 2nd floor and their handline became inoperative- and a 2nd-alarm response is immediately dispatched.

By 5:50 a.m.- the trapped firefighters have found their way outside.

The 3 males- reported by EMS as ages "43-" "29" and "36-years-old" were taken to Research Med Center with non-major burns and some smoke inhalation.

The fire was brought under control by 5:54 a.m.- and a fire investigator is on-scene to determine the cause.

None of the home's unknown number of occupants were hurt.

CSW Weather: Metro K.C. Included in NWS "Winter Weather Advisory"

The advisory goes into effect later this Saturday afternoon and extends until early Sunday morning- and it DOES include Metro Kansas City and MetroRegion areas from southeast through north of KC-MO..

The NWS expects anywhere from 1/2-inch of snow in Eastern Kansas up to an inch in eastern Metro K.C. areas.

It will turn very cold with strong and gusty northwest winds by later today bringing near zero-degree wind chills by Sunday morning.

CSW BREAKING-EXCLUSIVE: Blue Springs MO Fire Crews Respond to Building Fire - At One Of Their Own Fire Stations

The only thing worse for a firefighter than having to go back and put out a fire you thought you'd already extinguished is responding to a fire call at YOUR OWN fire station.

Such is what happened at 1:42 p.m. Friday afternoon when an alarm went out to four companies of the Central Jackson County Fire Protection District (CJCFPD) to respond to a reported fire in their own Fire Station Number 3 at 803 Northeast Jefferson Street.

A medical helicopter (LifeFlight) is also stationed there.

It was reported to be "a small fire- in the lobby" of the fire station that was quickly doused- and the damage estimate or cause of the fire wasn't yet available from the CJCFD.

At least no one was hurt.

MetroRegion K.C. NEWS: Sedalia Residents Get Hearing Before Kansas City Power and Light Rate-Increase Approved

Many so-called "experts" (many the same ones that claim The Great Recession (Depression) is over) say that so far- inflation in America has been kept in check- although US Government printing presses work overtime printing money.

Try convincing Americans- especially those on fixed incomes with no Social Security COLA increases for 2 YEARS- that inflation is not a worry- with rising taxes- food- fuel- etc. prices.

The SEDALIA DEMOCRAT reporter Matthew Steingraber covered a Missouri Public Service Commission's (MO PSC) formality-only "public hearing" to address an electric rate increase sought by the Kansas CIty Power and Light Company- who also recently bought-out MetroRegion utilities former Aquila Missouri Public Service division and the former Aquila St. Joseph Light and Power division.

Mr. Steingraber reports that the rate increase is "needed to recover costs associated with the construction of Iatan 2 — an 850-megawatt coal-fired power plant that started operating in August — as well as higher operating and service expenses-" according to a KCP&L offical quoted in his story.

You can GOOGLE how the KCP&L got that new- coal-fired power plant rushed through regulatory processes in order to build it and stick we consumers with not only the cost of the questionably-needed plant- but also for it's cost overruns as well as KCP&L executive raises and bonuses.

Also- part of those "operating and service expenses" you will have to look at twice to believe.

Parts of that increase actually goes toward the 'Powerful Light' company's expense of "(covering) its costs of asking for the rate increase-" states a K.C. STAR story on the KCP&L's recently APPROVED rate increase for Kansas customers.

Also- Sedalia's "hearing" began at 5:30 p.m. on a work/weekday- ample time for 9 to 5ers to rush from work to the rate hearing (heh).

MO PSC hearings on rate-increases are typically only utility-nuisance formalities (they recover the cost of such from YOU!)- so Missouri KCP&L customers should prepare to see an increase in your electrical rates soon.

MetroRegion K.C. NEWS: The (Police) Love Affairs of Columbia MO

As much as one may cringe at stories of KC-MO Police officers shooting up their own police cars at backfires and throwing "flash" bombs into people's homes indiscriminately- as well as other area police shenanigans- comes this story why married Columbia MO Deputy Police Chief has suddenly resigned from the force.

News sites Keep Columbia and The COLUMBIA MISSOURIAN both report the abrupt resignation of CPD Deputy Chief Thomas Dresner because his love affair with a "subordinate" female officer on the CPD force was about to go public.

"I've Got A Secret" Says Lee's Summit Officials Regarding Use of Taxpayer Money For Private Firm

Municipalities are increasingly resorting to keeping secrets when it comes to using taxpayer dollars to woo corporations to their cities.

Regular readers of CSW know about KC-MO's "secrets" regarding a proposed 1000 room convention hotel that will absolutely need heavy taxpayer-provided corporate welfare.

Now- according to a "breaking news" story this morning in the LEE'S SUMMIT (MO) JOURNAL- 2 companies possibly coming to Lee's Summit have had the carrot of "incentives" dangled before them.

According to the LSJ story- the name of one of the companies is being kept from the very taxpayers financing their "incentive."

The other company whose name is not being kept secret- "Exergonix-" stands to receive "an incentive package of between $10.9 million and $11.5 million in tax abatement (also known at CSW and the rest of the Real World as "taxpayer welfare for corporations")."

Lee's Summit residents- hold tight to your wallets....

CSW BREAKING: Junior Arsonists Disrupt KC-MO's Southwest High School Again

This time- the fire is reported in 2 trash cans on 1st and 2nd floor boy's bathrooms of this troubled school at 6512 Wornall.

Oddly- an automatic fire alarm had initially been dispatched at 9:05 a.m. Friday morning- then was cancelled a minute later by dispatch as per notification "from the alarm company."

However at 9:10 a.m.- KC-MO Fire dispatch sent out a five-company response "regular alarm" to the school.

Pumper 37 arrived at 9:13 a.m. to report nothing visible- but the school was "being evacuated" of students and faculty.

The 2 fires are quickly put out- and an arson invesigator has been summoned to the scene.

NOTE: The "corporate" news media in this town has quit reporting these disruptions (apparently until it gets REALLY serious)- but prior incidents during this school year at Southwest High School can be found in THIS (and other) CSW post.

Central States NEWS: Lee's Summit Man Dead After Being Struck By A Car in Springfield MO

The SPRINGFIELD (MO) NEWS-LEADER reports that a pedestrian- reported as "24-year-old William McCreary of Lee's Summit-" was struck and killed by a motorist who lost control of his car on a Springfield street Thursday.
(Photo courtesy of The SPRINGFIELD NEWS-LEADER)

The NEWS-LEADER says the male driver of a sports car apparently lost control of his vehicle while driving over railroad tracks in the 1300 block of St. Louis Street- struck Mr. McCreary who was by a bus stop- then sheared off a utility pole.

The driver of the car reportedly suffered critical injuries in the crash and had to be extricated from the car by firefighters.

KC-MO City Officials Willing To Ursurp Citizens' Rights- Spend Taxpayer Money On 'Special' E-Tax Election

The KANSAS CITY STAR reports tonight that the election to continue K.C's 'Earnings Tax' will be held April 5th in 2011.

Never mind there is ALREADY a city election scheduled for March 22nd next year.

That's when Kansas City MO voters get the chance to throw the WHOLE lot- Mayor and 'Clowncilpeople' alike- out on the streets.

But rather than hold the E-Tax election that same day- KC-MO elected officials figure taxpayers won't miss the estimated $300-500000K cost to hold that special election- just for the E-Tax- in April.

But- get this- The STAR story states that those same city officials willing to waste YOUR money on a special election hopes there won't be any special E-Tax election at all.

Even though the E-Tax question was brought this far by THE PEOPLE petitioning the State for an election- then THE PEOPLE who voted for this election in November via Proposition A- KC-MO's elected officials have- according to The STAR's story "filed a lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of Proposition A."

CSW will continually campaign AGAINST those brazen KC-MO officials and their brethren seeking re-election in March- and- seeing how city officials care neither about city finances or it's citizen's rights- we'll be AGAINST continuation of this city's 'Earnings Tax.'

K.C. Business Journal: Ford Moving Escape Production Line To Kentucky

Louisville stole- then lost Kansas City's longtime Future Farmers of America convention about 10 years ago.

Now- according to this story in the KANSAS CITY BUSINESS JOURNAL- the Ford Motor Company is moving it's Escape production line from Claycomo to the Louisville plant.

That will leave Claycomo only manufacturing one vehicle: the F-series pickup trucks.

CSW BREAKING: House Fire in Olathe KS

At 10:42 a.m.- five companies of the Olathe Fire department were called-out on a house fire.

The fire is reported to be in a house in the 700 block of West Wabash- there was smoke showing when the first fire crews arrived several minutes after the alarm was dispatched.

It's been said that the occupants of the house have gotten out okay- and no injuries have been reported as of this post.

The fire was reported "out" at 10:52 a.m..

State of Kansas Gets Nearly $3-Million For Mortgage Holders Conned By Banks

If you or I are found guilty of illegal or unethical dealings- we're jailed.

If you are a financial institution like a bank- the directors NEVER see a jail cell: they can simply buy their way out of the mess (usually with the bank depositor's money too).

The DODGE CITY GLOBE reports that the Wells Fargo bank- who in 2008 acquired those shady mortage lenders Wachovia Corporation and Golden West Corporation- has settled with the State of Kansas in regards to those shaky mortage dealings to the tune of $2.8-million.

"Close to 500 Kansans will benefit" from the settlement- said The D.C. GLOBE.

'Only A Fool Would Say That' Chief's QB Cassel Might Play Sunday

Apologies to Steely Dan- there was rampant speculation that Chief's quarterback Matt Cassel- who had an emergency appendectomy Wednesday- would play in Sunday's game at the San Diego Chargers.

In the first place- such nonsense had NO place leading off Kansas City TV newscasts Wednesday night and in the second place- only a fool would even speculate that Chief's management would put Cassel in Sunday's game.

Unless they have a death wish for Matt Cassel that is....

San Diego CA House Laden With Explosives To Be Burned Today - Live TV Feed Links

You may or may not have heard about a San Diego house that is so laden with explosives inside that authorities can't remove them- so they're going to burn the house at 11 a.m. Kansas City-time today.

Officials have erected a 16-foot-high earthen berm around the affected home- evacuated nearby homes- and will close a section of busy Southern California freeway- Interstate 15- by the 9 a.m. PST projected start time for the burn.

Several San Diego-area television stations will carry a live feed of the fire (that has some people very concerned the fire could trigger a large explosion)- and you can find such a live TV feed of the burn here at the NBC affiliate KNSD or the CBS affiliate KFMB here..

UPDATE- 12:41 P.M.- The fire- which was delayed due to "weather conditions- is about to be set.

HERE is the CBS live feed.

Associated Press: "Tax Defeat Could Trigger New Recession..."

Many will no doubt wonder when the 'old recession' ended...

Associated Press writer CHARLES BABINGTON pens a story on a warning issued by The White House on what MAY happen if House and Senate Republicrats and the few DemoRepublicrats don't vote to continue the Bush-era income tax cuts.

As you may or may not know- those (House and Senate Republicrats and the few DemoRepublicrats) pollys are also holding the "middle" and "lower-class" UCSA (United Corporate States of America) citizens' tax cuts and extended unemployment benefits hostage.

Aren't you "middle" and/or "lower-class" citizens  who voted obstructionist- wealth and corporately-oriented Republicrats back in office just thrilled????

D.C. Republicrats Nix $250 Payment To Nation's Elderly

Saying that America can't afford cutting $250 checks to Social Security recipients- House and Senate Republicrats have quashed legislation that would have approved such a deal for those who haven't gotten a cost-of-living increase in 2 years- according to this AP story via MyWay news.

Personally- I don't think America can afford Republicrats either- but Americans keep voting the b%@&#$!s in....

CSW BREAKING: Fatality Vehicle Crash in Gardner KS

At least one person is dead- another person is near death- and possibly up to 4 other people- including 2 children- were hurt in a head-on crash on old U.S. 56 highway near the New Century airport in Gardner.

Killed was reportedly a "13-year-old female" who was in a car that collided head-on with a pickup truck.

At least one very critically-injured person has been transported to Overland Park-Regional Med Center by JoCo MEDACT-EMS.

This patient- the male driver of the pickup truck reported to be around 60-years-old who was also reportedly ejected from the truck during the crash- later died at OP-R.

There were 2 other- less-serious injuries in the crash.

CSW offers our deepest condolences to both families- and prayers for a speedy and complete recovery for those who were injured.

CSW BREAKING: Bus Driver Injured When Brick Comes Through Windshield

KC-MO Police report that around 4:30 p.m.- a female school bus driver suffered facial and possible eye injuries after "a brick came off a bridge and struck the bus's windshield- shattering (the windshield) and showering (the bus driver) with broken glass" on Chestnut Trafficway near Independence Avenue.

The woman's condition was not life-threatening- and there was no report that anyone else on the bus was hurt.

CSW COMMENTARY: The Utter Hypocrisy of America's "Christian" Politicians - Volume 1697

Good politicians can spin virtually anything into something else...

Doing my daily reads of Central States online newspapers- I came across a story in The TULSA (OK) WORLD that caught my attention.

It reads where certain persons- particularly an Oklahoma U.S. senator- were upset because a Tulsa Christmas celebration removed the word 'Christmas' from the celebration's title.

So- I thought- let's check out that Senator's voting record in Washington in regard to his "Christian charity" toward those less fortunate/connected in America.

After reading the list- the ONLY non-obscene word I could conjure up regarding this "Christian" senator was HYPOCRITE.

Mothers: Do NOT let your children be located anywhere close to an American politician when The Second Coming occurs.

CSW BREAKING: House Fire in Independence MO

Five companies of the able Independence MO Fire department are engaged in a fire-fight in a 1-story residence in the northwestern part of that city.

The initial alarm sounded at 1:05 p.m. for the location near the intersection of 10th Street and South Crisp- and when first-arriving "Pumper 3" got there 3 minutes later- they reported "smoke showing" from the "1-story" house and a "fire in the basement."

Thus far- there's been no indication of anyone trapped in the house- nor any injuries reported as of this posting- but it appears another Metro family unfortunately won't be 'home for Christmas.'

Central States NEWS: Explosion- Fire at Oklahoma Gas Refinery

The explosion and fire occurred about 11 a.m. Wednesday morning at the "Energex" facility located near Cox City OK- according to the story from Oklahoma City's THE OKLAHOMAN online.

No one was hurt at the facility that reportedly processes natural gas.

Central States NEWS: Sioux City Residents Join KC-MO Taxpayers Stuck Paying For Civic Fluff Projects

I consider civic fluff projects as amenities that have nothing to do with a city's necessary infrastructure: pro or minor league sports stadiums- arenas- urban-renewal "entertainment" areas- etc.- etc. etc..

Kansas City MO taxpayers are presently getting hit with $10-15-million-per-year payouts for the 'Power & Light District' and soon to get fleeced again with an unneeded downtown convention hotel (hey- pay NO attention to the steep water and sewer rate increases behind the curtain).

(Photo courtesy of The SIOUX CITY JOURNAL)

In downtown Sioux City IA- a local government-approved downtown redevelopment Ponzi scheme is being foreclosed upon by a bank because all the rosy- pre-build financial prognostications didn't come true (sound familiar?) and (it) SUX taxpayers will pay- according to this story in The SIOUX CITY JOURNAL.

Also in that story- note how Sioux City's elected officials play dumb (like KC-MO's) when the find out the taxpayers will get stuck with the bill.

INjustice In America: The Glenn Stevens Saga - Another Joins Boycott of Walmart

Regular readers of CSW now know all about the false charges of theft brought against honest and hard-working Raymore and American citizen Glenn Stevens by MegaCorporation Walmart and certain law enforcement agencies seemingly in Walmart's HUGE corporate pockets.

Mr. Stevens' story should frighten ANY and ALL American citizens- for if The Law can come for a man like Glenn Stevens- they can come to YOU and ME with any charge The Law wants to hit you with- and force YOU and ME to PROVE OUR OWN INNOCENCE,

Glenn Steven's children are in the ring with their Dad- fighting as best they can and tying up all their own financial resources trying to beat these Twilight Zone-like charges that would astound even a 15-year-old pre-law student.

Son Leroy Stevens and a TRUE American has a blog 'Glenn Stevens Is Innocent' and today I find another true American who became aware of Mr. Stevens' plight and has joined the Stevens' as well as Capt. Spaulding's World readers in a BOYCOTT OF WALMART over this affair.

After more than 5 months of false charges against Glenn Stevens- Walmart STILL refuses to drop the case that is clearly BASELESS and is quite simply- WRONG....

CSW BREAKING; Two-Alarm Apartment Building Fire in Midtown KC-MO

Eleven companies of KC-MO firefighters are battling a fire in a 3-story apartment building in the 4100 block of Troost Avenue.

The alarm sounded at 8:21 p.m. for 5 companies- and when those first fire crews arrived at 8:24 p.m. fire could be seen at the "rear" of the "3-story" building.

Three additional companies were sent to the scene at 8:25 p.m.- and a 2nd-alarm was sounded for 3 more companies at 8:33 p.m..

Occupancy status of the building or any injuries have not yet been reported- and the fire was "under control" at 8:38 p.m. with "3" handlines being used.

CSW BREAKING: Body Found Near The Missouri River and I-635

The KC-KS Police department reports finding a body around 3:35 p.m. near the Missouri river and the Interstate-635 bridge.

The KC-KS Fire department was also summonded at 4:15 p.m. to help police remove the unknown-age male- who had been decapitated-  from the scene.

Police aren't- at least initially- investigating this as a homicide.

Kansas City Metro-MetroRegion Weather: Snow Saturday?

Sorry- now I'M asking readers weather-forecast questions like the TV people do their viewers...

The answer is: it LOOKS like snow- or like frozen wintery-type precipitation this coming Saturday evening into Sunday morning.

The images shown here are GFS weather-model forecast maps for Saturday at 6 p.m. and Sunday at midnight- showing an intensifying low-pressure system in Missouri- wrapping-around more cold air and possibly snow into the K.C. MetroRegion and Metro.

Note particularily the blue- 0-degree Centigrade or 32-degree Fahrenheit line and the green-shaded precipitation area as it is in relation to Kansas City and our surrounding MetroRegion.

It shows us to be at or below 32-degrees and in the soup.

How much snow is really too early to tell with any certainty- but if the map scenario holds up- at least several inches are possible here in Kansas City.

Stay tuned- as I'm watching developing weather situation this closely....

Kansas City's AM 'Talk-Radio' Hasn't Changed

For the first time in many- MANY years- I tuned into a K.C. AM talk-radio station- KMBZ- to hear Mr. Glenn Stevens- the man who MegaCorportation Walmart has accused of crimes Mr. Stevens never committed.

Once again- if I turned-down either the endless commercials AND/OR the endless host chatter- I would have missed the approximately 3 minutes total that I actually HEARD Glenn Stevens talk.

KMBZ should SERIOUSLY consider hiring Denver talk-radio host Rick Barber.

Rick's a political pragmatist who actually lets his guests- and the people who call in- TALK!

I'm behind the Stevens family 150%- but the next K.C. talk show they're on I'll catch in later- Net-downloadable podcasts that I can edit-out the commercials and the too-chatty hosts.

Edwardsville KS Cop Charged With Sex Crimes

And apparently- this guy's still on the Edwardsville PD force.

The BONNER SPRINGS (KS) CHIEFTAIN reports that 31-year-old Edwardsville Police Officer Nathan Pryer has been charged in the Johnson County (KS) District court with "one felony count of aggravated sexual battery and one misdemeanor count of sexual battery."

Makes one wonder if they were the victim of a sex crime in Edwardsville- who do you call?

Eudora Building 'Delayed-' Shouldn't Lawrence KS' Memorial Hospital Be Investing In Level-1 Trauma Treatment?

Last Sunday morning- CSW reports two traumatic injury patients- one stabbed the other shot- showing up at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

In that report- I note that the 2 patients are transferred to other hospitals with more advanced trauma care.

Lawrence Memorial Hospital is not a high-level trauma care medical facility- yet- LMH has $2.5-million to invest in a Eudora medical building whose construction- according to this story in The EUDORA (KS) NEWS- has "been delayed until March."

Fourth Restaurant Closes in KC-MO's Heavily Taxpayer-Subsidized Power and Light District

You HAVE to read the cheerleading spin that a spokesperson gives the latest restaurant closing in KC-MO's $10-15 million per year taxpayer-subsidized party hole the Power & Light District.

First off- The Peachtree location at the P&L closed Monday.

Nick Benjamin- "executive director" of the District- told the KANSAS CITY BUSINESS JOURNAL that "We are extremely sorry to see any business not succeed; although it is an unfortunate fact of life in a project with over 50 businesses in this challenging economic environment that some will not make it” and "The record of success of our tenants compares very favorably with any other similar district both in this market and nationally.”

Maybe the sky is NOT falling- but gravity is simply increasing....

Next Johnson County Crime Sweep- Pot-Growing Hookers

Crime is rampant in The Land of Ilk & Money- er- I mean Milk & Honey- Johnson County KS...

Yesterday it was announced that more than 2-dozen people were apprehended by JoCo Law and charged with some-sort of participation in prostitution.

Last week- it was busting people growing marijuana in their homes.

CSW had learned from an unreliable source that JoCo Law's next sting involves pot-growing hookers.

Stay tuned- or tune us out for more details....

Editor (Needed) Wanted: Record-Length Pregnant Woman in Topeka KS Crash

Most women are ready for childbirth after 9 months- but- if this storyline from last night's TOPEKA CAPITAL-JOURNAL is to be believed- a woman suffering a record-setting length of gestation also suffered injuries in a Topeka car crash.

At least the gaffe was corrected in this morning's edition of the CJ Online....

Central States News: Son of Assistant University of Colorado Coach Found Dead in Garden City KS College Dormitory

Last Saturday- 19-year-old DeVaughn C. Levy of Englewood CO was found dead in his dorm room at the Garden City Community college- according to an Associated Press and TOPEKA CAPITAL-JOURNAL report.

DeVaughn was reportedly the son of C.U. assistant football coach Darian Hagan.

Garden City police do not suspect foul play in Levy's death.
