Central USA Snow Cover Via Visible Weather Satellite

With mostly clear skies over the Central States this Saturday afternoon- the snow on the ground is quite visible.

Much of this snow cover should melt during the coming week as temperatures warm into the 40's and 50's- perhaps some 60's by mid-week.

BREAKING: House Fire in Kansas City Northland

The alarm was sounded at 2:22 pm Friday afternoon for 5 Kansas City MO Fire companies to respond to a reported house fire in the 5600 block of North Potter in the Gracemor subdivision north of Worlds of Fun.

Arriving units report a "working fire in a 1-1/2-story residence" with "all occupants out" uninjured.

At 2:42 pm- firefighters had rescued a family dog from the house- the animal sounds to be okay.


The fire was reported under control at 2:44 pm- and the Red Cross was requested for the "2 adults and 5 children" displaced by the fire.

Then The Snow Ends in Kansas City

Radars trends and ground observations show the 2nd "snowstorm" of the 2016-2017 Winter coming to an end within an hour.

Most areas received from 1-1/2 to 3-inches of the freezy skid stuff.

Looking at Metro traffic cameras- there is at least one snow-free lane on the Interstates.

Most other lesser-traveled roads are snow-covered.

Traffic has been light and there have been few crashes.

One a few hours ago reportedly involved a sand truck on I-470 near Douglas in Lee's Summit MO..

BREAKING: Snow Has Begun in Metro Kansas City

As of this posting- light snow has begun over most of Platte county and is moving into Clay county MO..


Affected are I-29 north toward KCI airport and beyond- I-435 east and west loop from the KCI area- and I-35 near Liberty MO..

Light to occasionally moderate snow will spread over the rest of Metro KC during the next 3 hours.

The Chiefs will host the AFC Divisional Round Playoff Game on Sunday, Jan. 15 at Arrowhead Stadium. 

Kickoff is at 12:05 p.m. and the game will be on NBC-TV.

BREAKING: Possible Bridge Jumper Briefly Closes Part of Kansas City Highway

This began a little before 8:30 pm New Year's night when a male has threatened to jump from a U.S. 40 highway overpass onto I-435 below.

As shown by these KC SCOUT camera images- the man is surrounded by police- who have closed U.S. 40 at I-435 for this incident.

It is also possible the northbound I-435 ramp from westbound I-70 could be closed as well as I-435 itself.


UPDATE:  As of 8:43 pm- this situation has been resolved without injury and the male will be taken to a mental facility for evaluation.
