Pilot in West Virginia Airshow Dies- Death Toll at Reno NV Airshow Crash Reaches 9


There was the crash of a World War-II-era aircraft at an airshow in Martinsburg WV earlier Saturday afternoon.



The ASSOCIATED PRESS reports the pilot died- but none of the airshow's spectators were hurt.


That was not the case late Friday in Reno Nevada- where another WW-II-era airplane- a P-51 fighter- crashed in front of a section of spectators- spraying the crowd with debris.



Officials there said Saturday that 9 people have died of injuries suffered from that crash- including the pilot.



There were nearly 70 injuries- with 8 of those still in critical condition.

Three days later- the death toll in the Reno crash had reached 11- inculding a Lenexa KS woman who was watching the race with her family- all of whom were also injured.

Young Woman and Her Child Found Dead in Olathe KS Residence

Olathe Police report finding a young woman and her infant daughter dead in their residence Friday night and they have the boyfriend in custody.

The incident occurred in the 1000 block of East Huntington Circle.

Police aren't telling the news media how the woman and infant died- or if the boyfriend is even a suspect.



Saturday afternoon- Olathe Police released the names and ages of the 2 victims.

Dead are 24-year-old Amber R. Searles and her 4-month-old daughter  Kyra O. Searles-Davis.

CSW WEATHER: Tornado Watch No. 850 in Effect For KS- OK

The Storm Prediction Center in Norman OK has issued Tornado Watch Number 850 for a large part of south-central Kansas and north-central Oklahoma.


Tornado Watch No. 850 is valid until 11 p.m. CDT Saturday night.


Some major cities in this tornado watch are Wichita- Dodge City and Garden City in KS- Ponca City- Woodward and Gage in Oklahoma.


Activity is forecast to move eastward across the watch area- and likely south of Metro Kansas City.

CSW BREAKING: Shooting Victim in KC-MO Northland


There are few details yet available regarding a shooting victim reported around 5:45 a.m. in the lobby of a Northland KC-MO motel.

The victim was at the Super 8 Motel at 4321 N. Corrington- police say- and he had been shot in the groin.


KC-MO EMS-34 reported a "23-year-old male" victim in obvious pain as he was transported to a Northland medical trauma center.

CSW BREAKING: Shooting - Hostage Situation in KC-KS

KC-KS Police tactical officers are converging on a command post set up at 5th Street and Washington to deal with a hostage situation nearby.

At an apartment in the 1500 block of North 9th Street just after 5 a.m.- a "black male" reportedly shot a person in the basement- then held 5 people at gunpoint in an upstairs room.

Police want to talk to the gunman about a shooting turned homicide in the 3000 block of South 8th Street around 4:22 a.m..

At 5:10 a.m.- one hostage reportedly got away.

Police surrounded the house and called for fire & EMS crews.


As of 5:40 a.m.- EMS was treating the hostage that got away for "an anxiety attack."


That person told police and EMS crews that there were "3 adults and 2 children- a 9-year-old boy and a 5-year-old girl" involved and "one person shot in the head."


As of 6:45 a.m.- police report that "4 adults" who were hostages had been "released-" but  there were "still" (the) 2 children inside" with the gunman.


At 7:40 a.m.- one of the hostages- reported to be the "male child-" was "released from the residence."

Nearly ten hours later- the suspect still has refused to exit the apartment on North 5th Street and police continue to surround the neighborhood.

Several other buildings close to the suspect's location were evacuated of residents hours earlier.

Around 4:30 p.m. Saturday afternoon- the suspect finally surrendered to KC-KS police without incident.


CSW BREAKING: Shooting in Kansas City KS- Victim Critically-Injured


A Hispanic male in his mid-30's to mid-40's was transported to a hospital with a critical gunshot wound after the 4:01 a.m. report of "shots fired" located a victim at "6th Street and Northrup" minutes later.


There was no suspect info immediately available from police.

CSW BREAKING: 1-Vehicle Crash in South Overland Park KS Leaves Child Seriously Injured


It was a van whose driver tried to avoid a deer- went off the highway and rolled onto it's top in a ditch- and the call involved emergency services in 4 counties.



The first calls went out around 1:30 a.m. to Linn and Bourbon counties- the crash was "on northbound U.S. 69" but the male driver didn't know exactly where.

At 1:41 a.m.- emergency services in Miami county went searching U.S. 69 in their county until- at 2:21 a.m.- it was determined that the crash was actually in Johnson county- north of 179th Street.

Nearly an hour after the first reports of this crash- MEDACT-EMS reports "a 6-year-old female with facial lacerations" and other- possibly serious injuries.

She was taken to Children's Mercy Hospital in KC-MO by MEDACT after a medical helicopter was cancelled.

Her father- a "34-year-old male-" was taken to Overland Park Regional Medical Center in good condition. 

Airplane Crash at Reno NV Air Show Kills 3- Injures At Least 55

The crash occurred at the Reno Air Show and Races about 6:30 p.m. Kansas City time Friday evening.

A P-51 Mustang being piloted by a man in his 70's crashed near a grandstand- showering the crowd with flying debris.

Three people- including the pilot- are reported dead. 

Hospitals report receiving at least 56 injured- at least a dozen of those injuries critical- according to the latest story from the ASSOCIATED PRESS via MyWay commercial-free news.

CSW BREAKING: Water Rescue Call in KC-KS- MO Was Bogus

At least 6 fire companies- 3 from each Kansas City- were called out for a reported "water rescue of 2 people in the Missouri river" just after 2:30 p.m. Friday afternoon.


It was reported a canoe had overturned- but at 2:37 p.m.- police report 2 people were found who was "conducting a training drill" in the river. 

MetroRegion Kansas City News: Lawrence KS Shifts Water Supply Away From Algae-Infected Kaw River

That toxic blue-green algae has been popping-up at a number of MetroRegion lakes this summer (yes- still summer till Septemeber 23) and now- due to upstream reservoir releases particularily at Milford- the algae has made it's way down area rivers.


So concerned about the problem that Lawrence officials moved that city's water supply treatment to it's Clinton Lake facility- according to the story in the LAWRENCE JOURNAL-WORLD online.

Upstream on the Kaw (Kansas) River the City of Topeka hasn't taken such drastic measures as they still continue to take water from the river- according to the TOPEKA (KS) CAPITAL-JOURNAL.

CSW BREAKING; KC-MO Fire Truck in Crash On Way To Fire

Injuries are reported at a crash involving KC-MO Fire Department's Truck 15 at 75th Street and Olive.


The crash occurred as Truck 15 was on the way to a structure fire that was dispatched at 10:22 a.m. at 7300 Prospect.

The crash between Truck 15 and another vehicle occurred about 2 minutes later.

Two ambulances were initially sent to the wreck- but one was cancelled and the injuries are reported to be to a "civilian" in the vehicle that crashed with the fire truck.


The fire was in a structure containing "paint and other chemicals-"  that fire was brought under control about 5 minutes ago with no reports of injuries thus far.

Liberty MO Mayor Opposes Liberty School District Tax Rise

It seems governmental bodies everywhere are raising taxes- even in these times of an extremely shaky economy.

Not to be left out of the taxpayer gouging is the Liberty School District- which is putting a 43-cent increased tax per $1000 property valuation on the November ballot.

According to the LIBERTY TRIBUNE- the mayor of Liberty- Greg Canuteson- sent a letter to Liberty School Superentendent Mike Brewer- blasting the school district for such a steep tax rise without consulting city leaders.

Kauffman Center For The Performing Arts A New Kansas City Gem


After 3 years of CSW photos showing it's construction- the ribbon has finally been cut on the new $400-plus-million dollar Kauffman Center For The Performing Arts at 16th Street and Broadway- just south of the Bartle Hall convention center.


The latest photos are from Monday- September 12- the day before the ribbon-cutting.


The first public performances at the Kauffman Center are this weekend.


CSW salutes Julia Kauffman and the late Ewing and Muriel Kauffman for all their contributions to making Kansas City a nicer place to live. 

CSW Weather: Summer Ends in Parts of Iowa With Record Low Temperatures

Summer ended about a week early in Mason City Iowa- who registered a "record low" temperature of 27-degrees Thursday morning.

Several other weather reporting locations in Iowa also registered below-frezing temperatures- according to the DES MOINES (IA) REGISTER newspaper online.

No freeze or frosts for Metro Kansas City- but rain will move into the MetroRegion later today- tonight into early Friday.

AMC Moves To Kansas- Let THEM Eat The Corporate Welfare

Hey AMC- don't let the door hit you in the tail end...

The tiny People's Republic of Leawood KS is the latest Kansas Metro city to steal a KC-MO corporation.

Yeah- it DID help that the wonderful State of Kansas threw tens of millions of Kansas taxpayers to lure the motion picture theater owner/developer.

Each of us would be fools to refuse such a handout- so I'm not blaming AMC in the least for their move.

In fact- it's my hope that Kansas taxpayers end up having to EAT the $47-million given to AMC to move from one side of the Metro to another.

Would serve them right and HEY AMC...


Don't let the door hit you in the backside moving to Leawood.

CSW BREAKING: Aircraft With Engine Out to Land at K.C.I. Airport

At 9:52 a.m.- the fire station at K.C.I. airport has requested "outside" fire companies" for "an Alert 2" standby for an aircraft with in-flight mechanical problems.

The aircraft is reported to be "a 737 with an engine out" with 151 crew and passengers on-board.

It's reported to be a Delta Airlines flight.

The plane landed without incident or injury.

MetroRegion Kansas City News: Receeding Missouri Leaves Battered Highways in Northwest Missouri

As the water level in the Missouri River continues to fall- the damage left behind is evident and striking.


More than 2 months of flooding has left many roads and highways damaged- many have gaps of entire roadway and roadbed washed out.


This includes U.S. 136 highway west of Rocheport- shown here in an image courtesy of the ST. JOSEPH (MO) NEWS-PRESS along with an accompanying story on the highway damage.



Still closed is Interstate 29 north of the Iowa border going toward Omaha- and damage to the roadbed and bridges could keep I-29 closed well into 2012.

CSW BREAKING: A 2-Alarm House Fire in Lawrence KS

At 6:11 a.m. Sunday morning- four companies of the Lawrence Fire department along with police and Lawrence-Douglas County EMS units- responded to a reported structure fire at 1325 Tennessee."

Police units arrived first- saw it was a working fire- and began blocking streets to fire-only access.

The first fire truck arriving at 6:13 a.m. reported the "front of a 2-story house fully-involved" in fire.

A 2nd-alarm was requested at 6:19 a.m..


Oddly- the fire spread to the "3-rd floor" of the 2-story structure- where the fire was fought until interior crews were ordered out at 6:32 a.m..

Searches of several floors of the structure were clear of any occupants to that time.


As of 7:05 a.m.- the fire has not yet been declared under control- but no injuries have been reported yet.

CSW BREAKING: Pedestrian Killed in South KC-MO

Police have streets blocked in the area of 7900 block of East 90th Street after a pedestrian was killed there just before 6 a.m. Sunday morning.


The call was first dispatched at 5:55 a.m.- and after the first officer arrived at 6:03 a.m. it was obvious the victim's injuries were very critical- and the victim was declared DOA by EMS at 6:49 a.m.


The 26-year-old female driver of the vehicle that struck the pedestrian- who police later identified as 29-year-old Juan Del Angel-Hernandez-  stopped close to the scene and later Sunday- was officially arrested by KC-MO police.

Her name given by police is Janette Irma Malcon Garrdio .

CSW BREAKING: Man Seriously Injured in Blue Springs "Diving Accident"

With temperatures hovering around 60 degrees- a man at a Blue Springs motel thought he'd take a plunge in the motel's swimming pool around 3:15 a.m. Sunday morning.


A Central Jackson County Fire Protection District fire and EMS unit responded to the scene at "1110 Northwest Missouri (M-) 7 Highway" at the "America's Best Great Value Inn" motel.

EMS reports finding a "33-34-year-old male" who "dived off the board into 3 feet of water head-first."

Although showing no skull injury- the man reportedly had no feeling below his waist.

EMS also described the patient as "showing EtOH" or signs of alcohol intoxication as the EMS crew rushed the man to a Kansas City MO medical trauma center.

Tornado Strikes Monroe LA With Confirmed Injuries

The tornado struck around noon on Easter Sunday. There is considerable damage repo rted in that northeastern Louisiana city of around 5000...
