The gunfire you may have heard in the urban core around midnight was erupting both before and after the Happy New Year hour...
Around 11:05 p.m. Friday night- a 24-year-old male suffered at least 4 gunshot wounds while driving his car in the 300 block of South 10th Street in KC-KS..
There wasn't any good suspect information on who shot the guy- and the victim's condition was serious to critical as KCKFD-EMS ran hot to a local medical trauma center.
Not even 3 hours into 2011 came a shooting call in the north part of Downtown KC-MO..
The victim was at a gas station/convenience store at 6th Street & Grand- supposedly the shooting stemmed from a disturbance at a nearby nightclub in the 200 block of East Admiral Boulevard- formerly known as Club NrG.
The male victim's injuries were serious- but not immediately life-threatening and police didn't have any good suspect info in this incident either.

An adult and 2 small children were killed in a mobile home fire early Saturday morning southwest of Arlington in Fayette County IA..
Six people lived in the home when the fire broke out around 4 a.m.- three other people- two adults and another child were injured in the fire- according to The CEDAR RAPIDS (IA) GAZETTE.____________
Shawnee police have returned a 3-year-old child to their home after the child was found wandering the frigid streets of Shawnee early Saturday morning.
The child was found in the 6300 block of Cottonwood Street about 4:20 a.m. without a coat or shoes.
Officers did a house to house check until they located the residence where the child belonged.
The child had reportedly left the residence on their own.
MEDACT was called to check the child for cold exposure- and the toddler was returned to their home without incident.

Two Metro homes are uninhabitable after fires broke out early New Year's morning.
The Leawood fire was in the 10300 block of Wenonga Lane around 3:30 a.m..
Fire crews from Leawood- Overland Park and JoCo Fire District No. 2 fought the flames- mostly from outside- for almost 3 hours before declaring the blaze under control.
Four occupants of the house escaped uninjured and firefighters managed to rescue a dog from inside the house during the fire.
There weren't any injuries and a cause for the fire is under investigation.
KC-MO fire investigators are trying to determine the cause of a fire that damaged a home in the 300 block of East 75th Street around 4:35 a.m..
Two handlines were used on that fire- and the flames were declared under control at 4:51 a.m..
An adult and a child has been displaced from this residence and the Red Cross is helping.

KC-MO Police detectives continue investigating a shooting at Research Medical Center (RMC) at Meyer Boulevard and Prospect.
The incident occurred about 1:45 a.m. in the south parking lot of the main building and KC-MO PD officers got the call from RMC security.
Two victims were taken into the nearby emergency room.
One was a male with life-threatening injuries. The second unknown victim had non life-threatening injuries a KC-MO police source said.
At least 3 vehicles were either involved or damaged in the incident and 2 of those vehicles were being sought by police.
