Weather Radar Series Of Kansas City's Massive (Heh) Snowfall
Here is a series of NWS radar pix showing the band of snow in the northwestern through north MetroRegion this morning- times indicated on the image you'll need to click on to enlarge:
KANSAS CITY WINTER STORM UPDATE 1
Light snow continues this morning in southern and southeastern portions of the Metro- and northwestern and northern areas of the MetroRegion.
Amounts have as of this posting have been 2 inches and less- with the band of heaviest snow in a nearly east-west band from southern Johnson and northern Miami counties in Kansas- across southern Jackson and northern Cass counties in Missouri.
That band of heavier snow was slipping east and southeast into southern Cass- Lafayette & Johnson counties MO..
A second band of snow is northwest of a Jefferson county KS- northern Platte into Clinton and Caldwell MO areas. This area is moving northeast with a slow eastward drift.
It appears the least snow will be in the heavily-populated areas nearest Downtown KC-MO- from northeast JoCo and Wyandotte county KS across central and northern Jackson County- central and southern Platte and Clay counties in MO.. A maximum of 2 inches should be the storm total in this area.
In the 2 other banded areas mentioned above- 2 to 4 inches storm total seems reasonable.
At any rate- the more heavily-travelled highways and freeways throughout the Metro are wet- with patchy ice and snow right now. Lesser travelled roads unplowed are snow-covered.
Temperatures have been falling- in the lower 20's right now- and northeast winds of 10-20 mph makes it feel like it's around 10 degrees and the snow is blowing as well.
The snow should end from southwest to northeast Saturday afternoon.

KANSAS CITY MetroRegion WEATHER: Snow Late Friday- Saturday
A new storm system is on track to bring up to 6 inches of snow across portions of the MetroRegion- beginning Friday night and continuing till about midday Saturday.
General snow depths at this time are to range in the 2 to 4-inch category here in the Metro- with as much as half a foot of snow possible in areas from about Linn and Miami County Kansas across to the Marshall- Warrensburg and Sedalia-Missouri vicinity.
Fortunately- much of the ice coating on trees and power lines is melting today (don't stand under any tall trees unless you want a nice headache)- so hopefully all the ice will be gone when the snow begins.
Many areas from Central to Northeastern Kansas are still without power from the ice storm and this forecasted snowfall won't help the restoration efforts at all.
More on this new storm as the information becomes available....

Scattered Thoughts: Funkhouser- Morrison and Mother Nature
Hmmm- the Funk camp USUALLY sends out emails whenever they're up to something- but here Wayne Cauthen has been canned and no email to constituents telling us why (after spending $25k on yet another consultant to KEEP him).
The Paul Morrison thing: When is the American public going to hold those in the public trust to a HIGHER standard of ethics & morals?
That was my reasoning why Nixon should have seen prison time and Bush/Cheney should be impeached. Also my reasoning cutting the political posts down on my blog: the bastards carry on with nothing done by the American public.
Why should I wake up the sheep?
Man- did the Metro skate (heh) by again on just missing a devastating ice storm. My temperature went up to 34 degrees late last night and has stayed there since.
To use a Hornerism- we return to regularly scheduled programming....

That's right- the AP reports that this bunch of idiots are actually picketing the funerals of the 8 victims of the Omaha Westroads Mall shooting last week.

If Karma holds true- I'd not want to be anywhere near the Westboro Baptist Church in Topeka- at anytime (yes- I avoid Topeka too).

Central States Weather: Up Next- Ice Storm Of The Century
Bear in mind- this century is only 7 years old- and yes Virginia- there's the 2002 ice storm here in the Metro that caused many millions of dollars in damages and lost productivity.
This Sunday evening however- a major ice storm continues generally along and parallel to I-44 from southwestern into central and eastern Missouri.
More precipitation continues to move northeastward out of Oklahoma (see radar image) into these same areas that were hit hard earlier today.
Yet the BIG story in this ice weather is yet to come- later Monday into Tuesday. See the next image- this is a map of cumulative precipitation through this coming Saturday.
Notice virtually the entire MetroRegion is in the 2-inch precip area- with a band of 3-inch amounts to our southwest in east central Kansas.
Folks- we're in trouble if this forecast pans out- and models have been pretty steady on this over the last few model runs.
Temperatures struggle to move the past 18 hours now- staying around 20 degrees. With the ice & snow cover- morning temperatures could plummet to the single digits if skies even become partly cloudy overnight.
Cloud cover will move in Monday in advance of The Main Show- limiting any solar heating- as low as the sun angle is right before Winter Solstice (Dec. 22).
Temperatures will be below freezing when the precipitation begins- at this time forecasted to start Monday evening- and now appear to remain below freezing during the duration of the precipitation.
The only saving grace would be if at least some of the precip would fall as sleet- limiting ice accumulations on trees & power lines. But upper air profiles continue to show a classic freezing rain setup.
If these forecasted temperature profiles and precip amounts continue to verify- much of the Kansas City MetroRegion could experience a devastating ice storm.
More as I get it- good luck folks....
