Mayor James: Just HOW Are You Going To Change The K.C. MO School District?

The Kansas City MO School District has never been under KC-MO city governmental oversight- much less control- until now it appears.


Apparently with time on his hands running the largest city in a Metro area of more than 2-million people- Mayor Sylvester James now wants to run the KCSD.


Inquiring minds would like to know how- after more than a dozen high-paid superintendents over the past 40 years with no success- Mayor James is going to step in- wave his magic wand- and turn the KCSD completely around (in our lifetimes).


Please outline your plan Mr. Mayor....

CSW BREAKING: Serious-Injury Motorcycle Crash on K-10 Near De Soto

At 6:35 p.m. Johnson County fire & MEDACT-EMS units were being sent to an injury crash "involving a motorcycle" on K-10 near De Soto.


The location is said to be "eastbound K-10- west of Evening Star Road."


One patient reported with critical injuries at the scene- another "possibly left the scene."


A fire department vehicle also reportedly "lost (fire) hose" on the highway somewhere near the crash site. 

Female Victim Dies After Overland Park Shooting

At last report from the Overland park Police department- the female victim of a shooting in that Kansas suburb has died at a Metro hospital.


The shooting occurred about 10:15 a.m. Thursday morning in the Lionsgate addition in the 5800 block of West 145th Street.



A male suspect (originally reported by the OPPD) reportedly shot the victim in a car in the driveway there then he drove away.

Shortly after 3:30 p.m. Thursday afternoon- the OPPD report finding that male "person of interest" dead by his vehicle less than a mile away.


Metro Kansas City awaits further details on this crime (was this a domestic murder/suicide?) from the OPPD.


Also thus far in 2012- Overland Park- Kansas City KS and Independence has more homicides than Kansas City MO...

MetroRegion Kansas City News: Body Found in Northwestern Douglas County KS

Investigators from several law enforcement agencies are involved after a body was found in northwestern Douglas County Thursday morning.


The LAWRENCE (KS) JOURNAL-WORLD reports the body was found about 10:45 a.m. Friday morning along North 2190 or "River" Road and the Burlington Northern/Santa Fe (BNSF) mainline railroad tracks.


So far- the police aren't giving many details on the discovery- but late Thursday afternoon the TOPEKA (KS) CAPITAL-JOURNAL reports the deceased as being 39-year-old Corey Brown.


Brown was reportedly "a developer" said the TCJ story- and he had been "missing since Tuesday."

Central States News: Tulsa- Oklahoma Politicians Preparing More "Incentives" For Bankrupt American Airlines

Metro Tulsa and Oklahoma politicians and business leaders are trying to conjure up economic "incentives" to keep American Airlines' overhaul base in Tulsa.


American Airlines- who still owes the City of Kansas City millions of dollars for breaking their lease of the old TWA overhaul base at K.C.I. airport in 2010- filed for bankruptcy last November.


The story in the TULSA (OK) WORLD tells of tens of millions of dollars already given the airline since 1995 in the forms of other "incentives"/corporate welfare.


Around 7000 people are employed at the 56-year-old Tulsa facility located at the Tulsa International Airport (TUL).

Independence MO Records First Homicide of 2012

A 41-year-old man is dead by gunshot- and Independence Police report a person is in custody after a shooting in the old Fairmount area of the city late Tuesday night.

The incident was at a home in the 600 block of Crisp around 9:45 p.m.

The IPD hasn't released any further information.

Central States News: Wichita To Lose Boeing in 2013

The new year has brought some bad news for Metro Wichita...


The WICHITA (KS) EAGLE reports that in 2013- Boeing will close it's longtime Wichita aircraft plant- putting more than 2160 people out of work.


Boeing had promised in 2007 if the corporation won the new US Air Force tanker contract that more than 7500 jobs would come to Wichita.


Boeing won the tanker contract last year- BUZZZZZZZZZZZ- Boeing lied to the State of Kansas by announcing this move from the state.


Now let's see- how many tax incentives and other corporate welfare the Kansas pollys gave Boeing that the corporation will be reneging on....

MetroRegion Kansas City News: Wellsville KS Man's Death Ruled "Accidental"

The New Year's Eve death by gunshot of a 56-year-old Wellsville man has been ruled to be an "accidental, self-inflicted gunshot wound-" according to the Frankilin County Sheriff's Department.


The OTTAWA (KS) HERALD reports the deceased was "Sean Thomson."

A Police-Involved Shooting Daily So Far in 2012

On Sunday morning- New Year's Day- a Kansas City KS police officer shot and killed a pedestrian the officer was trying to detain in the 4000 block of North 55th Drive.


Monday morning- Kansas City MO police shot and critically-wounded a man trying to run over them with a pickup truck near Blue Summit.

This incident occurred about 8:30 a.m. in the 8900 block of East 23rd Street.

Undercover officers had reportedly followed a stolen pickup truck to the 23rd Street address and were attempting to take the driver and a male and a female inside a house there into custody.

The pickup driver who was the one who got shot tried to run-over an officer or two- and rammed a patrol car before he was shot.

CSW BREAKING: First-Alarm Fire in KC-MO


Seven companies of the KC-MO Fire department are fighting a fire in a 2-story building east of Downtown.


The fire was reported at 4:03 p.m. in a building at 2308 East Truman Road.


Heavy fire was reported showing from the rear of this building when the first fire trucks arrived at 4:07 p.m.


So far- no injuries have been reported.

Four Suspected Arson Fires in KC-MO Saturday Night into Sunday Morning

Four structure fires of suspicious origin in Kansas City MO- one in Eudora and another in Kansas City KS kept area fire departments busy News Year's Eve into New Year's morning...


The first arson fire was already reported here at CSW- a house that burned at 33rd Street and Chestnut where a male dead of a gunshot was found inside during the 11 p.m. hour.


The next fire was reported at 11:39 p.m. in the 2300 block of Topping- where a single-story house was heavily-damaged.

That fire was declared under control at 11:52 p.m. with no injuries.


Then at 12:16 a.m.- five KC-MO fire companies rolled-out to the 5000 block of Paseo where a fire in a duplex was reported.

That too was a working fire that took until 12:37 a.m. to bring under control.

No injuries there.


While the Paseo firefight was on- another house fire is reported in the 2400 block of Kensington at 12:17 a.m..

A man was injured at this fire- suffering "minor smoke inhalation" according to an EMS crew on the scene.

This fire took about 20 minutes to bring under control.


In Eudora KS- fire heavily-damaged a lived-in mobile home at the Grandview Mobile Home Park.

That incident was reported at 12:27 a.m. in the 500 block of East 10th Street.- and it took fire crews until 12:49 a.m. to get those flames "knocked down."

No injuries were reported here.


The last fire New Year's morning was in a lived-in house in Kansas City KS..

That incident was reported at 4:24 a.m. in the 1300 block of Yecker.

A basement fire burned into the first floor of the single-story residence before that fire could be controlled at 5:07 a.m..

No one was hurt here- and an investigation as to the cause was under way at last report.

Child Critically Hurt When Struck by Car in KC-KS New Year's Morning Dies

It was a wild New Year's Eve- New Year's morning with around 70 calls monitored here at CSW...


Among the most tragic was the call received at 1:53 a.m. from the 1600 block of Washington Boulevard in Kansas City KS..


There was the report that a child had been run-over by a car in the block- and the first bystanders are reporting "C.P.R." is in progress on the young victim.


The patient was reported by EMS to be "a 3-year-old female-" and she was rushed to Children's Mercy Hospital in critical condition.



The child- identified in this KHSB-41 NBC Action News story as "Celia Yoselin Heredia Portillo-" died in the hospital on January 2.




The driver of the car that hit her stopped and was questioned by police- but no ticket was issued.

Police Officer-Involved Shooting in Kansas City KS

Still awaiting details on a shooting and killing of a person by a police officer in the 400 block of North 55th Drive.


The incident was reported by the officer by radio at 3:04 a.m. Sunday morning.

Last 2011 Homicide Victim Found in Burning House

The incident occurred at 33rd Street and Garfield in Midtown around 11:05 p.m. Saturday night.


Five fire companies and EMS responded with police at 11:07 p.m. to "a house fire (one of several over the next hour) with a possible shooting victim in front" of the address.

No victim was located in front- but fire crews needed additional help with the "fully-involved" in flames "2-story" structure.


The male victim- reportedly with at least one gunshot wound- was located at 11:23 p.m. with the fire itself under control at 11:26 p.m..


Police were investigating the city's 115 killing for 2011- and were seeking a black male suspect.
