CSW BREAKING: Apartment Building Fire in Blue Springs

Virtually all on-duty Central Jackson County Fire Protection District fire crews- along with backup crews from Lee's Summit- Independence- Fort Osage and Sni Valley fire departments- are battling a fire in a 3-story apartment building in western Blue Springs.

The fire is at the Autumn Place Apartments complex in the 600 block of Northwest Candletree (off Kingsridge) Drive and began around 5:30 p.m. this Wednesday- Independence Day 2012.

"Crowd control" got to be a problem for the Blue Springs Police department- whose resources were already strained by "fireworks calls."

An injury crash elsewhere in Blue Springs reported around 6:30 pm further strained both police and fire resources.

Two children suffered non life-threatening injuries in the crash.

At 7:49 pm- the fire was reported by CJCFPD command as "under control."

No reports of serious injuries- but there have been at least 2 EMS transports of emergency personnel with heat-related medical issues from the fire scene as of 7:55 pm.

And- fire crews had only managed to do a search of the building's first floor- it is not known for sure if anyone was trapped inside by the fire that heavily-damaged the at-least 12-unit structure- and not yet known the number of people displaced by the fire.

City of Kansas City MO Does Crappy Job Informing Citizens of Bad Water

Tuesday morning- I went to do some dishes and noticed the water pressure was next to nothing.

Went looking on the Internet- nothing there- went looking around the neighborhood for any broken water main- nada.

Found out on the EVENING news (more than five hours later) there was a problem with powering a pumping station near 67th Street and Blue Parkway and that there was a boil water order in KC-MO very close to- but apparently not including our house/neighborhood.

And- as of this post- there's NO idea if the boil water order has been lifted!

Not one thing on the KC-MO Time Warner-Looney Tunes government channel (Channel 2) nor the city's 'Water Services' Web page (as of early July 4) where one MIGHT think something affect the quality of the citizen's water supply WOULD be posted.

Hey City of Kansas City MO- why be wasting money on your TV channel and your Internet pages if you are not going to post IMPORTANT and NECESSARY information on same?

The passenger jumps out and runs- he's captured by police within 10 minutes "at 80th Street and Paseo- but the driver is seriously hurt and can't escape.

Police are concerned the "car's about to catch fire" at 1:35 a.m.- and pull the injured driver from the car.

Another fire department dispatching gaffe (good thing the car WASN'T on fire) doesn't see the fire department arrive until 1:44 a.m.- and the EMS crew transports the "33-year-old" male driver with serious injuries to a Metro hospital.

Just after 3:45 a.m.- a Kansas Highway Patrol Turnpike trooper was chasing a car due to "an unpaid toll" on the Turnpike- eastbound on I-70 from Bonner Springs.

Speeds during this chase were reported around "100" mph..

The pursuit went south on I-435- one officer managed to road-spike the suspect's tires as he raced south on I-435 near the Kansas River bridge.

The last word of this chase was at 3:53 a.m. when the suspect "passed Johnson Drive" in Shawnee- and I don't know if the suspect was ever caught.

Around 4:15 a.m.- a female KC-KS police officer chased a vehicle containing 3 males on Parallel Parkway in the area of I-435 north of the Kansas Speedway.

The suspects pulled into the Walmart parking lot at 109th Street and Parallel Parkway- and bolted from the vehicle with one male actually running into the store.

At 4:29 a.m. Sunday morning- five companies of the Overland Park Fire department were sent to an apartment building fire in the Waterford Place apartments in the 11400 block of West 107th Terrace.

One fire company could see smoke from the looming fire nearly 1/2-mile away- and upon their arrival at 4:38 a.m. the "two-story" building was at least one-third involved in flames.

A 2nd-alarm of five additional companies- including from Olathe and Lenexa fire departments- respond.

At 4:49 a.m.- it's determined all the building's occupants are safely out- and the fire-fight is conducted from the building's outside.

At 6:24 a.m.- the fire is finally declared under control.

No injuries have been reported- and only two people- "foreign exchange students-" needed Red Cross assistance for temporary housing and supplies out of the reported eight apartment units damaged or destroyed.

Later Sunday- the OPFD said the cause of the fire was thought to be "carelessly discarded smoking materials."
