** Man Shot In KC-MO Carjacking **

*** A man has non life-threatening injuries after being shot in the leg around 3:15am in KC-MO's near Northeast side- at Missouri Avenue and Maple Boulevard.

Police report three Hispanic males shot the man- then took the victim's white minivan.

Officers found the victim's van nearby and unoccupied within 10 minutes after the incident was dispatched- but didn't locate any possible suspects.

Temperatures held nearly steady or even rose a tad overnight as high clouds filtered through the MetroRegion. Readings rose from the single digits in locations such as Lawrence-KS and St. Joseph-MO to the low to mid-teens. In the Metro- temps were low-20's to near 20's in urbanized areas.

Winds were calm or light southwesterlies.

A slow warming trend will begin today thru early Monday- tempered by the new snow cover. We'll struggle to reach 40 degrees.

So far- only flurries are expected in the near-term- late New Year's Eve/early New Year's Day- then colder.

The snow is moving out and will end all areas over the next several hours.

The National Weather Service (NWS) has the K.C. Metro- and MetroRegion- under a "snow advisory."

Contrary to popular belief- a snow advisory does not mean a visit by political candidates- but a prediction of 3 to 5 more inches of the white stuff by midday Friday.

Grease up the sled runners and wax the skis mama! g

If ya got any cool snow pix- send them and I'll post 'em....

A Couple Of Inches Of Snow The Next Two Days

Snow fans!

Around an inch expected in the Metro by tomorrow morning- maybe 2 more inches Friday morning as a series of weak upper atmospheric disturbances move through.

No major problems expected- if we've all re-learned how to drive in this stuff.

There is a more vigorous storm due in New Years Day and January 2nd. MUCH colder air is also associated with this New Year storm.

Bless You With The Holiday Lights

I've been meaning to say this to the people who live in those festively-coloured houses we pass by during the Christmas season:

Thank You!

The displays tell me those who share the beauty of those lights also share the beauty of what this special time of the year means.

It's not about religion really- I'm an agnostic.
I know it comes off as really corny if not simply idealistic to think- and dream- of Peace On Earth and Goodwill Toward Men.

Dreams are what reality is made of- so don't think anything if the guy in the blue van pulls up to park briefly- watching your beautiful lights.

I'm dreaming with you if for a moment.

Merry Christmas everyone!

Credit Card Debt Looms As Negative Financial Factor

The Associated Press is full of bright (heavy sarcasm) financial news today.

Here's an article on America's credit card debt- and how defaults on card payments could make the mortgage crisis look like a single cloud on a sunny day.

Oh- I too am open 24 hours for your spending convenience... HoHoHo!

AP: Government Needs To Do More To Avoid A Recession

In case some of you haven't noticed- our economy is in the tank. Prices rise daily yet income remains the same- or with what raises we DO get are eaten up immediately in higher energy costs in everything we buy.

Some "experts" claim the government needs to do more to keep the economy from tanking- according to this Associate Press article.

Lord help us if a few corporate types go down with the economy- most the rest of us have already started down that slippery slope with not even a piece of twine in sight.

Merry Christmas.

High clouds make for a gorgeous sunset- as high clouds move in in advance of the next weather system late Christmas Day.

The Kansas City MetroRegion Overnight News and Weather Report - Sunday, December 23, 2007

*** A male was transported to an area trauma center and later was declared dead after a 12:27am shooting at 1843 Village West Parkway.

The shooting happened at or near a place in the Legends shopping area called "Margarita Mama's" and a suspect and the weapon were taken into custody nearby at 12:31am..

The victim suffered a chest wound. A number of witnesses were interviewed and police say the investigation continues.

The clouds that sleeted and snowed from 2 to 4-inches over the Metro Saturday rapidly swept out of the MetroRegion early Sunday morning. Up to 10 inches of snow fell in areas from near Topeka to St. Joseph Saturday.

Winds eased from a west to southwest direction as temperatures fell into the upper single-digits to mid-teens urban areas.

Average temperatures will keep much of the snow cover on the ground for Christmas. A weak storm system skirts the area late Christmas Day and early Wednesday- then a stronger storm system possible by late Thursday and/or early Friday..
