Central States NEWS: Chinese Company Gets U.S. Taxpayer Money to Locate In Metro Omaha

I
f it's not bad enough that cheap Chinese labor has taken away most of America's manufacturing jobs- now the Federal government and the State of Nebraska is giving away taxpayer money for Chinese firms to locate in the U.C.S.A. (United Corporate States of America).

The OMAHA WORLD reports that "Shaanxi EasyWay International Ltd. is opening its North American headquarters" in suburban La Vista- after having passed on locating that headquarters office in Vancouver- British Columbia- Canada.

That came with help from the deep pockets of the American taxpayer: "EasyWay is to receive a $500,000 federal grant through the State of Nebraska toward its working capital..." states the OW story.

We can only surmise that Canada didn't offer that company enough Canadian taxpayers' money.

Bottom Line.Com is Bottom-Line. WRONG About Thursday Morning's "Rolling Disturbance" in KC-MO

A
local blogger posts about a news story this morning covered in the local news media but covered FIRST here at CSW: the shooting of 2 men in a moving vehicle (that crashed) in northeast KC-MO's Blue Valley area.

The writer at bottomline.com questions The KANSAS CITY STAR's use of the term "a rolling disturbance" regarding the incident.

The writer then should question the KC-MO Police department- for the "rolling disturbance" term is EXACTLY what an officer at the scene used.

I know this for a FACT as I worked the incident from the initial 12:34 a.m. dispatch and the officer told me that exact term- "a rolling disturbance."

Too bad I wasn't 'called-out' as well- but the writer probably doesn't read CSW or he MIGHT have thought twice about posting his diatribe

What WASN'T exactly correct were the terms the writer states WDAF and KCTV news departments used to catagorize the shooting.

"Person Shot in Head After Rolling Gun Battle" said 'DAF and that's incorrect as 2 people- both men- had been shot in their heads.

KCTV's "Rolling Gun Battle Ends with 2 in Hospital" was wrong in that there was NO indication that the 2 victims had done any shooting back at the suspect's vehicle.

Sure The STAR makes mistakes- we ALL do sometimes.

Just make sure you attribute the 'mistake' to the correct entity before you go flaming them.

His injuries didn't appear to be immediately life-threatening.

The second victim- the male driver of the crashed car- had a critical-injury head wound.

Both were taken to separate Metro hospitals.

Police are seeking the other vehicle: "a red car containing 2 white males" who sped eastbound on the viaduct and determining the circumstances of the "rolling disturbance."

City of KC-MO Finds Money To Provide A 'Drunk Transit Trolley'

What KC-MO budget crisis?

The City Council found a half-million dollars for a 1000-room convention hotel study- more on THAT in another post tomorrow.

The latest found money goes- not to funding-cut city services- not to laid-off city employees- not to filling the thousands of potholes on city streets- not to repairing or building new sidewalks- not to the KCATA who cut bus service for people who don't have cars- no.

The following funds:

From the "Neighborhood Tourist Development Fund- $100000-"

and City Council-approved $295000 ($95K of which is a no-payback "grant"- the rest a "secured loan") for ... a trolley service to run the drinking areas in town on weekends.

That's right.

It's such a GREAT IDEA that 2 rich guys don't want to put all THEIR OWN money into!

According to The 'Never Met A City Expendature They Didn't Like' KANSAS CITY STAR- this trolley- brought to us by rich-guy No. 1 Bill George (chairman of the convention hotel study group- more on that tomorrow as well) and rich guy No. 2 Bill Nigro- will run on weekends "an 11-mile route from 75th Street through Waldo and the Plaza, past Martini Corner at 31st and Oak streets, and to the Power & Light District and 18th and Vine."

The STAR reports "the trolleys will run from 7 p.m. to 3 a.m. Fridays and Saturdays" and the cost is "$15 for a night-time wristband" so those partiers who still have disposable income "can get on and off as many times as they like."

Oh- you can get an unlimited monthly pass for $35.

Or- you can pass on this whole deal until the next City Council election and throw that WHOLE bunch at 414 East 12th Street (City Hall) OUT!

I'm sure those then-unemployed city councilpersons will land on their feet with jobs provided by the likes of a Bills George or Nigro.
