Kansas Teen Shot - Killed During Underage Drinking Party

T
he Topeka (KS) Capitol-Journal reports that a 14-year-old girl was shot and killed late Friday night in Augusta-KS- about 20 miles east of Wichita...

The story says there was "an underage drinking party" going on at the time- and that "a 25-year-old man" at the party had pulled out a gun to show it off and the gun went off- killing Augusta High School freshman Andrea Young.

Reportedly- the man showing-off the gun also owned the house where the party was. That guy was arrested and is being held by police.

WEATHER: Freeze Warning Metro K.C.

W
e didn't get a frost or freeze in the Metro Saturday morning- only got down to 38-degrees here in South KC-MO but the NWS says there's a chance of a freeze Sunday morning.

We didn't recover much at all temperature-wise today- it's 40-degrees here in at CSW HQ now.

With a cloud cover hanging around plus some warm air aloft sneaking in overnight- it looks like possibly those of us in the central Metro may escape a freeze.

But outlying and low-lying areas could possibly dip below the 32-degree mark after midnight.

At least we haven't had any snow- like these graphics from Nebraska traffic cameras showed early Saturday morning.

Some parts of the Cornhusker State got up to 10-inches of snow Saturday morning- as shown here from Ogallala and North Platte around the 1 am hour.

Arson Suspected In KC-MO "North-End" Fire

F
ive companies of the KC-MO Fire department rolled out early Saturday morning to a structure fire in the 500 block of Harrison in Kansas City's Old World North End.

Pumper 25 arrived 3 minutes after the 3:07 am dispatch- and found the back porch of a duplex burning.

A working fire response was ordered and firefighters used 2 handlines on the fire over the next 15 minutes until the flames were controlled.

During the firefight- the on-scene battalion chief spotted a Dumpster on fire a block away on Gillis. Another pumper company was dispatched on that fire.

The structure- a 2-story duplex- was unoccupied and there were no firefighter injuries. Dangerous buildings department was called as the burned back porch of the fire building was nearing collapse.

The cause of the Harrison fire- as well as the Dumpster fire on Gillis were suspicious- and a fire investigator was called in and discovered both fires were arson- according to a nameless KC-MO FD employee late Saturday afternoon.

Grandview-MO Home Damaged By Fire

T
he Grandview Fire department sent all on-duty hands to a house fire in the 13700 block of Parker at 12:09 am Saturday morning.

The fire reportedly started in the living room of the lived-in structure- and had spread throughout the house by the time the first firefighters arrived at 12:12 am..

Belton Fire sent a "mutual-aid" pumper truck to the fire- and KC-MO Fire sent a pumper company- truck company and a battalion chief to fill-in at an empty Grandview fire station.

Using at least 2 handlines- GFD had the fire under control by 12:35 am with no injuries reported.

Red Cross was summoned to the scene to render aid to the unknown number of the home's occupants.

A fire investigator was sent to the scene and the report was not yet available.

An investigation is underway without the limited witness evidence.

Two Shooting Victims In KC-KS Early Saturday

Police were investigating...

---

The 2nd shooting occurred about 2:55 am in the 300 block of South 10th Street.

Before police got to the address- someone had already driven the victim- reported as "an 8-year-old female shot in the chest" to a Metro medical trauma center.

The victim's condition was unknown.

There was also reportedly a 2nd person shot at the address- but their condition was said by police to be "not life-threatening."

When Economic Conditions Suck- Cities Turn To New Arenas

I
n this "recession (depression)"- we citizens who can't get into our neighbor's pocket for added revenue turn to cost-cutting and hopefully- savings.

Responsible governments theoretically also cut costs and trim pork- including putting glitz projects on hold.

Don't tell the City of Independence-MO about glitz- as they just opened their new (and competing with Sprint and Kemper) arena.

Also don't tell Lincoln-NE about glitz- as their city leaders are preparing to put plans for a new arena there on the November ballot.

Ah- what the Hell- infrastructure is sooooo unsexy...

Retailers: Don't Let September Reprieve Fool You

O
n news that American consumers spent more than expected in September- the stock market rises along with oil prices.

It's inflationary exuberance at it's American worst...

Nearly everyone I know won't be spending much if at all for Christmas.

Many have returned to a "traditional" Christmas- exchanging self-made items and eschewing budget-busting store buying.

The American consumer holds the key to ANY "economic recovery"- and our confidence is shot in this "system" where million and billionaires are rewarded for borderline-criminal financial activity while we American consumers are left holding the bag.

Make it a "homemade Christmas" again this year American consumer and show Wall Street and all the rich bastards we ain't taking their "business as usual."

M
uch of Metro Kansas City south of The Rivers has received more than 1-inch of rain: 1.47" here near the old Bannister Mall area as of 10:45 am Thursday.

Areas south of Kansas City (see radar graphic- counties outlined in green) are under flood and flash flood warnings already.

The areas under warnings need to pay close attention to future precipitation trends.

Don't expect anything but nuisance flooding around Metro K.C.- but pay heed and watch for high water if travelling southwest- south or southeast of Metro Kansas City.

Gardner-KS Voters Attempt Recall of Unresponsive Councilpeople

A
s Kansas City-MO councilpeople and it's Mayor will realize next election- it's not wise for a politician to go against 72-percent of your constituents wishes or otherwise jack the voters around.

That's what's facing at least 2 Gardner councilpeople and would happen to even MORE Gardner councilpeople if not for a state law that says you can't throw the WHOLE council out.

According to the OLATHE (KS) NEWS- the councilpeople in jeopardy went against 72% of voters wanting the city to come to a better agreement with BN over the intermodal rail center being built southwest of Gardner.

Like I've said until I'm blue in the face- people we elect to make laws and policy- that breed known as politicians- NEED to take drug tests before taking their oaths of office.

We drug test for retail workers for Christ's Sake- wouldn't it just be A LITTLE prudent to pre-drug test politicians (see the CSW poll on the right)?

WEATHER: Heavy Rain- Flooding- Snow Possible??

I
t's going to be an active coming 5-day period weather-wise.

As shown by the accompanying graphic from the National Weather Service (NWS)- flood watches are in effect for southern portions of the Kansas City MetroRegion beginning Thursday.

A strong storm system with a strong cold front will sweep over the Central States over the next few days.

This will bring a good chance for rain here in the Metro- as well as a frost/freeze over much of the MetroRegion.

We'll have to watch Sunday- as there COULD be a chance of snow somewhere in the Kansas City MetroRegion!

More on this developing weather situation as it unfolds....

Addendum on S.C. Nuke Waste Transport Route

A
s noted on our previous post regarding South Carolina's planned December (through spring 2010) transport of it's 15000 (55-gallon-drum?) barrels of depleted uranium waste to a site in Utah- here's a map graphic (click-on to enlarge) showing proposed routings of UCSA's uranium wastes.

These routes were proposed in 2006 (as shown on the graphic) for the also proposed Yucca Mountain radioactive storage facility.

Note how most of this lethal crap from the eastern 2/3 of the country winds up going through Chicago-Omaha/Council Bluffs-Cheyenne-WY and west.

But also note the busy secondary feeder to the Omaha route west: right through Kansas City.

___________

South Carolina's Nuclear Waste May Come Through Kansas City In December

O
ne only has to know facts and look at a map to figure out how South Carolina's "15,000 drums of depleted uranium" is going to get routed to it's Utah "disposal" site.

Without the Associated Press's story even mentioning Kansas City- we know K.C. is the No. 1 rail hub and we're on a direct route between South Carolina and Utah.

So come December- if rail cars seem to be glowing as bright as Plaza Christmas lights- at least you'll know why.

And IF that train derails in Kansas City- we'll ALL look like the Plaza....

Afghanistan War = FAIL

E
ven the USSR couldn't win in Afghanistan so naturally- America's "leaders" are entertaining notions of increasing troop strength to that stagnant war of more than 6 years running.

All the war in Afghanistan is doing is increasing the UCSA debt and killing our youth and all we're doing is continuing Herr Bush's failed policies.

America can no more "stop" terrorism with bullets and bombs than our nation can stop this "recession (Depression)" with more taxpayer dollars poured into criminal banking and financial institutions.

If you REALLY want to stop terrorism and "recessions (Depressions)"- pour that money directly TO THE PEOPLE.

Remember- folks with little to nothing to start with have little to nothing to lose....

WEATHER: Frost- Freeze Possible This Weekend

A
strong cold front will surge through MetroRegion Kansas City later this week- bringing lots of rain as well as a chance for the area's first frost and/or freeze this weekend.

At this time- it's looking like the precipitation will end before it gets cold enough for snow- but will be watching that situation as we get closer to the weekend.

Nonetheless- be prepared for at least frost in Metro Kansas City with a freeze possible in low-lying and northern areas of the MetroRegion.

T
he Lawrence (KS) JOURNAL-WORLD reports a farmer near Eudora had thieves clean out a crop of apples.

Floyd Ott says someone came into his orchard and picked a couple of hundred of bushels of apples.

No word if this is the vanguard of the UCSA's (United Corporate States of America) new "Apples for Assholes" program- and Mr. Ott has no suspects (maybe it's the Shawnee-Mission Park's overgrown deer population).

What Kool-Aid Is The Kansas City Star Execs Drinking?

C
ommercialism is overrunning virtually ALL forms of content today.

When you watch a movie on TV- the commercials increase in number and length toward the end of that movie- so bad the original program becomes unwatchable.

It's much the same for today's newspapers- you try to read news stories through full-page advertisements of shiny material crap.

What I read this morning trumps ALL the above.

The KANSAS CITY STAR in it's infinite corporate stupidity is actually INCREASING THE PRICE of it's advertising-fat Thanksgiving Day edition- from the "normal" 75-cents to a whopping TWO DOLLARS!

Imagine- the STAR's subscribers are CHARGED MORE FOR FOR A PAPER FILLED WITH COMMERCIALS!!!!!!!!!!!

How f-ing stupid is this???

I hope The KANSAS CITY STAR continues losing subscribers based on this boneheaded move- it'll absolutely serve them right and thank McClatchy for a whole-lot-of NOTHING....

Car Crashes Near Main Gate of Lake City Munitions Plant

I
n today's Age of Terrorism- imagine being a guard at the entrance to the Lake City/U.S. Army ammunition plant at Missouri 7 and 78 highways around 6:10 am Sunday morning.

Here was a car- careening down the roadway toward the front gate of one of the US military's biggest munitions manufacturing plants and that car wasn't going to stop.

The car- containing 2 occupants- rolled-over and came to rest near the main gate of Lake City- it's 2 male occupants injured.

A medical helicopter was sent for one of the car's occupants: "a male in his 20's who (appeared) uninjured but highly" intoxicated.

The 2nd occupant- also a younger male- was transported by AMR-EMS to an eastern Metro medical trauma center.

You have to think the guards at Lake City's main gate were relieved it was JUST a crash by a possibly intoxicated driver and not a terrorist attempt.
