More Convuluted Logic

Municipalities won't allow you to send your "yard waste" (grass clippings- dead plants- tree limbs)- BIO-DEGRADABLE material- to a landfill- but will accept endless bags of NON BIO-DEGRADABLE materials (residential- industry trash).

Is it just me or is this picture royally screwed-up?

I've long joked America could use a Department of Logic- but would never find any so-qualified government employees to staff it.

Local Newscasts Becoming American Idol Reprise

Okay- I don't WATCH American Idol. I had no idea who David Cook was until it was smeared all over every local newscast.

Local citizen makes good ran longer than ANYTHING in the MetroRegion going or gone bad

Newscasts have become showcases for whatever network programming that station runs- or virtually ANY other fluff they can muster (see non-celebrity news).

The ONLY in-depth reporting is in the stations' "investigative" pieces which do NOT address America's deeper and larger concerns of loss of freedoms- politician corruption or corporations run amock.

I'm sure- no- I'M POSITIVE the future surviving Chinese historians will include America's news media as one reason America collapsed.

John McCain Would Have Iraq Hemorraging Last Through 2013

This guy wants to continue Bush's failed policy in Iraq (which- by the way is bankrupting America to the tune of $10-12 billion a month).

Worse- McCain thinks Iraq is WINNABLE.

Drug test for politicians anyone? Must've been a DAMN POWERFUL hallucinogen McCain popped.

To Bush dissing Obama: Sitting down and TALKING with those who oppose America rather than sticking a gun in their mouth FIRST?

Maybe YOU should have tried that instead of throwing American lives and resources down a sandy rat hole....

City Tries To Make Up Lost Revenue By Ticketing Neighborhoods

It was an orgy of violations in our little 'hood yesterday. Some bozo came through yesterday ticketing people for everything they could.

A wonderful thing with many folk around here on the brink of bankruptcy.

First off it was parking. We now exceed downtown in parking costs- thanks to STUPID-ASSED tickets!

My brother and a neighbor parks their car slightly off our busy residential street- to be specific- they put the car's wheels on the grassy area between the street & sidewalk to better facilitate traffic movement and avoid getting their cars dinged.

Call the cops after someone runs into your car- "make a walk-in report."

Ticket another neighbor for having his car in the grassy area next to his driveway. Unreal.

We have MOUNDS of trash in front of weed-overgrown houses throughout the 'hood.

There weren't ANY tickets around those places.

Little police protection- it takes them more than 15 minutes often to respond to what one would think are priority calls- like disturbances or speeders THROUGH the 'hood.

So they ticket bullshit.

After this little bit of civic coffer building at the expense of already overextended citizens- we're seriously looking into selling and moving OUT of KC-MO now.

This was the last straw- we've had it with KC-MO..

Until we do- we're going to oppose EVERY tax increase these elected bozos put in front of us. Not JUST oppose them- but start putting large signs of opposition on our property.

Shame- shame- SHAME on the city for adding stupid extra expense to people already overextended!!!

And when my brother has to go pay his ticket- I'll drop him off downtown and pick him up. Screw your outrageous parking fees you bozos!!!

CENTRAL STATES WEATHER: NWS-SPC: Slight To Moderate Risk Of Severe Storms Later Today

The Kansas City Metro- along with most of the MetroRegion except western and northwestern areas- is included in a "slight risk" of severe thunderstorms later today and this Tuesday night.

More troublesome is an upgrade to a "moderate risk" of severe storms- and possibly more tornadoes- over last weekend's ravaged areas of southeastern Kansas- northeastern Oklahoma eastward into Missouri & Arkansas.

Please check your local radio- TV- NWS radio and/or here for updates on this increasing deteorating weather situation.

Thank you and I pledge to continue to bring my fellow citizens in the Central States informative weather news and information.

My heart is with each and every person who suffered losses in the weekend tornadoes and PLEASE- when severe weather threatens- keep tabs on it!
________

Sound Warning Sirens When Hurricane-Force Winds Or Greater Are Expected

I've been debating this point with a fellow weather-head for years:

When a severe storm (like we had May 2) with hurricane-force or greater winds looks certain to strike an area- why not issue a Tornado warning?

We're DAMN lucky no one was killed or even seriously injured in May 2's EF2 and EF3 tornadoes in Kansas City's Northland.

I say government officials (who I DO NOT put my trust in for ANY safety) should err on the side of logic and caution.

WHENEVER a severe storm appears to or IS actually producing 70 m.p.h. or greater winds (like the May 2 storm)- sound the damn sirens and crank out a Tornado warning.

Is somebody going to dock your pay for erring on the side of caution?

Seventy m.p.h. winds can (and did) cause life-threatening conditions/damage.

Will these EMs wait until someone is killed to change this policy?

The Kansas City MetroRegion Overnight News and Weather Report - Saturday, May 11, 2008

** Three Teens Shot In KC-KS **

*** The call came in just before midnight to a club in the 1600 block of Central Avenue- multiple victims of a shooting.

Police reported 3 Hispanic teenaged males shot- one critically and 2 with more minor gunshot wounds. Two victims were taken to a Missouri-side trauma center

Police are seeking four Hispanic male "persons of interest (suspects)"- who left the scene in a grey-colored Jeep Grand Cherokee with 22-inch chrome rims..

KC-KS police also believe the shooting was gang-related.

** High Winds Bring Power Lines- Trees Down **

*** Winds gusting as high as 53-mph early Saturday morning caused numerous power outtages and downed trees and limbs which struck some structures and blocked some roads.
No injuries were reported.

Several thousand KCP&L customers lost power throughout the Metro overnight- according to a spokesperson. Most larger blackouts had been restored as of this report.

Trees came down across the Metro- one in the 3400 block of Bellfountaine struck a garage and threatened a house and another fell on a vacant trailer in a mobile home park in east KC-MO.

Another blocked Oldham Road east of Hillcrest in Swope Park before a fire department pumper crew removed enough for one lane to open.

________________

<><><> OVERNIGHT WEATHER <><><>

Winds gusting as high as 60 miles per hour blew through the Kansas City MetroRegion overnight and temepratures plummeted into the upper-30's and 40's.

The winds and colder temperatures were a result of the passing of the strong low pressure system that brought tornadoes from Southeastern Kansas- Northeast Oklahoma & Southwestern Missouri through Arkansas and into Georgia Saturday afternoon though early Sunday morning.

The storm's death toll so far is 20- according to the latest Associated Press story.

A variably-cloudy- cool- windy day across the MetroRegion today- temperatures in the mid-50's to mid-60's with northwest winds- although diminishing- still in the 15-30-mph range. There could even be an isolated light rainshower over the eastern portions of the MetroRegion.

It'll turn warmer Monday and- with increasing winds- Tuesday.
The next possible round of stormy weather is now outlooked to occur late Tuesday or Wednesday.
