Kyle is now a hurricane- as shown here- and should affect the Northeastern U.S. over the next few days as it moves north.

He personified the word "cool" and he was a superstar to America's "Baby-boom" Generation.
Some of his films rank among Hollywood's classics- "Exodus"- "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid"- "The Verdict"- "The Sting"- "Absence of Malice."
Mr. Newman won a long-deserved Oscar in 1987's "Color of Money" with Tom Cruise.
The film world- it's audiences and the Planet Earth has lost a giant- and a true friend.
Paul Newman has died at age 83 of cancer.
In what surely will mean no tax relief for many years to come for middle & lower-income Americans- the Associated Press reported early Saturday morning that the historic- multi-hundred-billion-dollar bailout for Wall Street is almost done.
One sticking point- that was to be relief for those being foreclosed upon- apparently has been or is close to removal from this Mother Of Millionaire Welfare deal.
Please remember this dark day- when it arrives- November 4th at the voting booth.
One person is dead after a S-U-V roll-over crash in KC-KS early Saturday morning.
UPDATE: 0340 CDT- Yet unconfirmed by KC-KS PD- the victim in this crash MAY have been an off-duty police officer- explaining the large number of cops there.
UPDATE: 1530 CDT- It has been confirmed that the victim in this accident was indeed an off-duty KC-KS male police officer- Mark A. Jaramillo.
This story then takes an very bizzare twist- something I've not heard in my 20-plus years in the news business.
According to 41Action News- a 2nd off-duty male officer- Kyle L. Kovac- apparently the driver of the crashed S-U-V- left the scene after the wreck- then committed suicide at his residence.
Given the present climate of America on the verge of bankruptcy and both political parties' willingness to kow-tow to Money Street- I watched Friday night's debate in Oxford- Mississippi more-or-less impartially.
In my humble opinion- neither McCain or Obama "won."
Obama DID appear more presidential- as Mc Cain seemed to wear some silly grin most of the time when Obama was talking (Makes my case for drug-testing politicians).
Other than that- it seemed neither one came away a clear winner as such.
One thing DID interest me though- and it was the responses afterwards.
NBC had Joe Biden on and while he was talking- I wondered aloud if Sarah Palin would rebut (but doubted it).
Sure enough- NBC's Brian Williams says after Biden that "Palin was offered a response- but it was declined by the (Republicrat) Party."
The interesting debate therefore should be October 2- when Biden & Palin get their turns.
I'm sure Palin is too busy these days being rehearsed by Rove & Company so she don't look like a total moron when opposite the much more experienced Biden.
But Friday night- there appeared to be no clear winner of the first presidential candidate debate.

FROM A NEWS-TIPPER:
The Alaska Women Reject Palin Rally was to be held outside on the lawn in front of the Loussac Library in midtown Anchorage. Homemade signs were encouraged, and the idea was to make a statement that Sarah Palin does not speak for all Alaska women, or men. I had no idea what to expect.
The rally was organized by a small group of women, talking over coffee. It made me wonder what other things have started with small groups of women talking over coffee. It's probably an impressive list. These women hatched the plan, printed up flyers, posted them around town, and sent notices to local media outlets.
One of those media outlets was KBYR radio, home of Eddie Burke, a long-time uber-conservative Anchorage talk show host. Turns out that Eddie Burke not only announced the rally, but called the people who planned to attend the rally 'a bunch of socialist baby-killing maggots,' and read the home phone numbers of the organizers aloud over the air, urging listeners to call and tell them what they thought. The women, of course, received some nasty, harassing and threatening messages.
I felt a bit apprehensive. I'd been disappointed before by the turnout at other rallies. Basically, in Anchorage , if you can get 25 people to show up at an event, it's a success. So, I thought to myself, if we can actually get 100 people there that aren't sent by Eddie Burke, we'll be doing good. A real statement will have been made. I confess, I still had a mental image of 15 demonstrators surrounded by hundreds of menacing 'socialist baby-killing maggot' haters.
It's a good thing I wasn't tailgating when I saw the crowd in front of the library or I would have ended up in somebody's trunk. When I got there, about 20 minutes early, the line of sign wavers stretched the full length of the library grounds, along the edge of the road, 6 or 7 people deep! I could hardly find a place to park. I nabbed one of the last spots in the library lot, and as I got out of the car and started walking, people seemed to join in from every direction, carrying signs.
Never, have I seen anything like it in my 17 and a half years living in Anchorage. The organizers had someone walk the rally with a counter, and they clicked off well over 1400 people (not including the 90 counter-demonstrators). This was the biggest political rally ever, in the history of the state. I was absolutely stunned. The second most amazing thing is how many people honked and gave the thumbs up as they drove by. And even those that didn't honk looked wide-eyed and awe-struck at the huge crowd that was growing by the minute. This just doesn't happen here.
Then, the infamous Eddie Burke showed up. He tried to talk to the media, and was instantly surrounded by a group of 20 people who started shouting O-BA-MA so loud he couldn't be heard. Then passing cars started honking in a rhythmic pattern of 3, like the Obama chant, while the crowd cheered, hooted and waved their signs high.
So, if you've been doing the math Yes. The Alaska Women Reject Palin rally was significantly bigger than Palin's rally that got all the national media coverage! So take heart, sit back, and enjoy the photo gallery. Feel free to spread the pictures around to anyone who needs to know that Sarah Palin most definitely does not speak for all Alaskans. The citizens of Alaska , who know her best, have things to say.

You can put American taxpayers in hock to the tune of (at least) $700-billion.
People marching in the streets? Nope.
Petro companies gouging Americans at the pump.
People marching in the streets? Not marching- driving still.
You can get America involved in a costly & immoral war in Iraq.
People marching in the streets? A few have- most don't seem to care.
You can take freedoms from Americans- pass "PATRIOT Acts" that allow warrant-less searches in Americans homes.
People marching in the streets? Hell no.
I wonder what would happen if politicians actually- physically SHIT on their constituents
Most would probably just smile and wipe it off.
Costa Rica- Canada- etc. are looking better & better every day- for I don't know just how much more I can take of this lack of American outrage of being fed crap and lied to....
The handful or so regular readers of this Internet vent-hole know I don't work for KMBC Channel 9.
However that won't stop me for giving them kudos here- for running the story of Colten Newman- that 3-year-old boy who was badly injured in a mowing accident in Polo-MO last week.
The Newman family didn't have health insurance as the father is- like yours truly- self-employed.
That little guy has an incredible will to live- which I found immediately evident listening to the medical helicopter's medical report to Children's Mercy as Colten was being flown there last week.
Colten's going to need A TON of medical help now and in the years to come due to the extent of his injuries (double amputation- etc.).
Ms. Rittenhouse and myself made a donation today to the Newman family- and I challenge ALL my fellow Kansas City area bloggers and news people to do the same.
THIS is a compassionate "economic bailout" that makes all the sense in the world- PLEASE HELP!

The fire was in a single-story house south of Gardner-KS early last Sunday morning (September 21).
The alarm came in at 3:53am- and only a general location of "I-35 and Moonlight Road" was sent out with that initial dispatch- for people driving on the Interstate could see the flames.
Gardner city and District 1 fire crews could see the flames themselves shortly after leaving their stations- which led them to the correct location of the fire at 26780 West 191st Street south of Gardner.
The first fire crews arrived about 5 minutes later- reporting the 1-story residence "fully-involved" in flames with the roof collapsing as firefighters hooked up their battle lines.
No one knew that 74-year-old Richard G. Fielder- his 54-year-old son Ricky or 72-year-old Doris McGinnis was still inside- and firefighters wouldn't know until more than an hour after my night's newswatch shift ended at 7am.
An autopsy report published in The KANSAS CITY STAR today (September 25) states the three victims "died of burns."
Fire investigators have not determined the cause of the fire- and may never find out since the home burned so intensely and completely.
PLEASE my readers- CHECK YOUR SMOKE ALARMS and see if they function properly!
Folks- you're going to LOVE this- and it will COST LESS THAN $1-BILLION!
I propose instead of RISKING $700-BILLION with the greedy fat-cats- the Federal Government will SEND every American- regardless of that Americans' economic status $2-MILLION.
That's right- $2-million of YOUR tax dollars for every man-woman-child and trans-gender in America.
Imagine the immediate boost to the economy. You can SPEND $1-million of that on a fine new home- car and whatever else. Even HEALTH INSURANCE!
THEN- take that 2nd-million and save it- or INVEST it. At a 5% return- that's $50k per year on the million's interest.
The fat-cats at the failed institutions can then take THEIR $2-million and make good some of the weak paper they're trying to foist upon all of us. Or maybe the Feds can just send those peoples' $2-mil to an account to sort out the messes THEY made.
Again- Captain Spaulding's Economic Bailout Plan: $2-million for EVERY American!
The economy will be just fine a month after our checks arrive- Heh.

We're told there is "no money" for social programs.
Any and all programs of various shapes and sizes helping middle to lower-income Americans has been CUT since 2001.
Many Americans have no- or can't afford basic HEALTH INSURANCE. We've been told time and again there's no money available for that in the Federal coffers.
Now- HUNDREDS OF BILLIONS suddenly become available when the country's WEALTHLY are on the hook.
No- No- huh-uh!
If this millionaire welfare passes- we- Americans- should recall and/or impeach EVERY politician that approves such dreck.
$700-BILLION folks- and that's just for starters with NO GUARANTEES!!!
Reject or the American People impeach/recall every last D.C. politician....
Call your Washington DC representatives to have this crap stopped- NOW!

CSW wishes FOX-4's Chief meteorologist Mike Thompson a hearty congratulations on his upcoming induction into the "Silver Circle" of the Mid-America Chapter of the National Academy of Arts & Sciences (NATAS) at the 32nd Annual Emmy Awards in St. Louis on October 4.
This Administration is using the SAME tactics as they did to swipe our freedoms with PATRIOT Acts after the terrorist attacks of 2001.
"Give us sweeping (financial) powers NOW" they say- "We work out the details later."
Is America- are Americans going to fall for THIS "act?"

Unelected Federal officials want carte-blanche with a multi-hundred-billion-dollar bailout of greedy- irresponsible moneychangers.
Few Americans are aware that the Federal government recently literally lost "360 tons or $12 billion of freshly printed C-notes"- according to "Spin Doctor" John Curtis.
Dr. Curtis can also be heard on The Rick Barber Show overnights on KOA-85AM in Denver.
Call your Washington DC representatives to have this crap stopped- NOW!

By God- if we- the Taxpayers of America- HAVE to rescue these failed firms with hundreds of billions of OUR money- THE VERY LEAST we should expect is that the CEOs of these failed firms have to surrender their million-dollar severance packages.
Please note that King Bush DOES NOT want this provision included- he wants to protect his "have-more" buddies!!! (See this McCain groupies???)
The CEOs failed at their jobs and that money should be taken and put in a fund to pay for the losses of the LITTLE PEOPLE who trusted these greedy S-O-Bs with their cash.
AND UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES should ANY "powers" be given to this unelected Federal Reserve guy.
If this "bail-out" takes weeks to get right- so should that be done.
The American People got fooled with the hundreds of billions spent in Iraq- let's not get fooled again!!!!!!!!!

Colten Newman-in care of Bank Northwest- 305 Main St.
Official- as of this post.
Here's what brings about autumn and the other 4 seasons- according to Wikipedia:
"There is either an equinox (autumn and spring) or a solstice (summer and winter) on approximately the 21st day of the last month of every quarter of the calendar year.
On a day which has an equinox, the centre of the Sun will spend a nearly equal amount of time above and below the horizon at every location on Earth and night and day will be of nearly the same length.
The word equinox derives from the Latin words aequus (equal) and nox (night). In reality, the day is longer than the night at an equinox. Commonly, the day is defined as the period that sunlight reaches the ground in the absence of local obstacles.
From Earth, the Sun appears as a disc and not a single point of light; so, when the centre of the Sun is below the horizon, the upper edge is visible. Furthermore, the atmosphere refracts light; so, even when the upper limb of the Sun is below the horizon, its rays reach over the horizon to the ground. In sunrise/sunset tables, the assumed semidiameter (apparent radius) of the sun is 16 minutes of arc and the atmospheric refraction is assumed to be 34 minutes of arc.
Their combination means that when the upper limb of Sun is on the visible horizon its centre is 50 minutes of arc below the geometric horizon, which is the intersection with the celestial sphere of a horizontal plane through the eye of the observer. These effects together make the day about 14 minutes longer than the night at the equator, and longer still at sites toward the poles.
The real equality of day and night only happens at places far enough from the equator to have at least a seasonal difference in day length of 7 minutes, and occurs a few days towards the winter side of each equinox."
Months ago- I had encouraged Ms. Rittenhouse to consider cashing-in her 401K money market fund and transferring her assets into more stable financial instruments.
A call last week to her broker gave her the news that her account "has lost about $1.9k in a year." The broker's secretary volunteered the fact that she "had lost around $20k" in her own account.
According to the Associated Press' "David Pitt" in a STAR article Sunday- in JUST the week of September 11 through the 18th- Americans cashed-out of their money market funds to the VERY loud tune of "$224.3-BILLION."
Save yourselves citizens- as the cost of a barrel of oil rises above $108 and higher- and the liability to the American taxpayers becomes incredibly overwhelming.
This bailout of greedy-now broke financial institutions with American taxpayer dollars will more than likely turn out about as well as the illegal and immoral Iraq War that Bush and his cronies got us into.
Just look- they're "rushing" this bailout through- and mostly without ANY provisions for the American taxpayer.
The Dems are calling for relief for the foreclosed and limits on bailed-out CEO perks to be included in any "plan"- but this is likely pure lip-service.
This "bail-out" WILL be "rushed" through with the ball to drop later.
In addition- I think- once this passes among the fellow millionaire pollys- we can kiss ANY chance of a National Health Plan a long and slow GOODBYE.

The Associated Press reports what most white TV news people and commentators dance around: The Race Factor in this year's presidential election.
A male- reportedly in his 40's- is in very critical condition in a Metro trauma center early Sunday morning after a shooting in KC-MO's Northland.
