New Year's Fires Damage Homes in Leawood KS- KC-MO

Two Metro homes are uninhabitable after fires broke out early New Year's morning.


The Leawood fire was in the 10300 block of Wenonga Lane around 3:30 a.m..

Fire crews from Leawood- Overland Park and JoCo Fire District No. 2 fought the flames- mostly from outside- for almost 3 hours before declaring the blaze under control.

Four occupants of the house escaped uninjured and firefighters managed to rescue a dog from inside the house during the fire.


There weren't any injuries and a cause for the fire is under investigation.



KC-MO fire investigators are trying to determine the cause of a fire that damaged a home in the 300 block of East 75th Street around 4:35 a.m..

Two handlines were used on that fire- and the flames were declared under control at 4:51 a.m..


An adult and a child has been displaced from this residence and the Red Cross is helping.
