When the call came in to MAST-EMS and fire dispatchers at 8:51 a.m.- they said they "didn't know what we have" at the Bayer plant in the 8400 block of East Hawthorne Road in KC-MO's East Bottoms industrial area.
MAST sent one ambulance- but the Fire department sent a pumper- aerial truck- a battalion chief and "Haz-Mat 71" to the call.
What they had was "a 48-year-old male" worker "on the (packaging) line" who had been exposed to "an insecticide solvent" and had been treated and "de-contaminated" by plant workers before emergency crews arrived- said Pumper 47's captain at 8:59 a.m...
The exposed worker was transported to a Northland medical trauma center in not-immediately life-threatening condition while Bayer- and no doubt OSHA- investigates the incident.
