Child Dies- 4 Others Injured in Eastside KC-MO House Fire

T
he nightmare began just before 3 a.m. Monday morning- six companies of the KC-MO Fire department responded to a house fire with possible people trapped in the 2800 block of Oakley Avenue on KC-MO's East Side.

Six MAST-EMS units also responded.

Three children were pulled from the heavy smoke and heat of the fire in a 1-story house- two of them in critical condition- an approximately 5-year-old male and a younger female.

The infant girl died of her injuries.

Two adults- said to be the children's parents- as well as the 3rd juvenile victim's injuries- were said to be non life-threatening by MAST-EMS paramedics.

The fire was brought under control within 15 minutes after firefighters arrived- and the cause is suspected to be an electrical space heater that came in contact with flammable materials.
