CSW BREAKING: Firefighter Injured in Overland Park House Fire



Fire crews from Leawood and Overland Park (OP) battled a fire in a large house in the 14000 block of Birch Monday afternoon and a firefighter suffered "facial burns" from the fire.


The initial alarm sounded at 2:24 p.m. Monday afternoon. The first arriving fire engine's captain reported smoke was coming from the structure at 2:25 p.m..

The chief officer evacuated crews from the first-floor of the house when the fire in the basement burned through at one point- the injured firefighter was reported a short time later at 2:38 p.m..

The firefighter's injuries are reported to be non life-threatening and it's unknown yet what department and/or station they were from.

JoCo Emergency Communications reported "an 11-year-old male" that was in the home reported the fire.

That boy escaped without injury and no other injuries reported as of this post..

Fire command reported the fire "under control" at 2:44 p.m. with the investigation as to the fire's cause underway.
