Hurricane Ike Inland From Galveston Bay- Texas



Hurricane Ike struck the Texas Gulf coast just east of Galveston around 2 am Saturday morning. Ike contained sustained eyewall winds of 110 MPH with gusts to 135 MPH..

The western eyewall passed over the middle of Houston- southeast to northeast. Nearly all of Metro Houston/Galveston is without electricity.


There have been "numerous" calls for help to Houston emergency services with many homes and buildings damaged. Fires have broken out in some structures.

Windows were blown out of at least several downtown Houston skyscrapers..

There are initial reports of at least 10 injuries and 3 fatalities.

Here on the outskirts of Hattiesgulch, we're sipping morning coffees, and prayin' for those in TX who got slammed. My aunt and Uncle will be scoping houses and filing claims for the same people of Baytown/Beaumont they saw in '05...either THAT, or they'll end up somewhere on the Louisiana coastline. (Will inform ASAP--haven't heard from them yet).

IKE fought me for a patio umbrella. I'm about to go see if it'll still work.

We (Southern Miss) are getting breezes from him-and will be rained on, but minor compared to what Houston/Baytown/Galveston has taken.

2nd landfalling hurricane on my Grandmom's birthday. I'll not forget ol' IKE for a while-even if he didn't cause me much harm.
