Home Invasion Results in Double Shooting- Homicide in Loma Vista Area of KC-MO

It's the 2nd reported home invasion and shooting in the Captain's neighborhood this year- and this one had deadly results.

This incident happened a little after 1 a.m. Tuesday morning at 7001 East 85th Terrace where a couple in their 20's along with their 8-month-old child resided.

Two male suspects broke into the home and shot the 24-year-old male and his girlfriend who was reportedly in her middle-20's.

The man died at the scene and the female was taken to a Metro hospital with reportedly critical injuries- it was unknown if the infant was in the house at the time of the shooting.

The couple and the child had only been living at the address for a few months.

Police later identified the victim as 25-year-old Edward Ewing II.

Police also report having the 2 suspects in custody later in the week.

The suspects- 25-year-old Garron T. Briggs and 26-year-old Victor D. Vickers have been chartgee with murdering Mr. Ewing- and shooting Mr. Ewing's girlfriend.
Mr. Ewing's death raises the KC-MO homicide total in 2011 to 68.

I am so sorry this has happened close to you--even though we have a lot of difficult issues in our neighborhoods here in South KC, I think we have a lot to offer in terms of location, housing stock and so on. I can even see more possibilities if the economy can improve, like combining small lots and building larger homes, yada yada.

But if crime, especially violent crime, starts to take a big hold in the south patrol, it becomes a lot harder to build and rebuild neighborhoods like yours and mine. Fear compounds fear and it starts to rule.

I pray the police can quickly solve this crime--my deep condolences to the family.

Thanx for both condolences T.O....

This neighborhood has been on a steady decline in about the last 10 years like so many around here in John Sharp's council district.

If lip service were results- we'd look like Mission Hills though....
