CSW WEATHER: NWS 'Winter Storm Watch' Metro K.C.- Central and Southern MetroRegion on Sunday - Monday



We've been watching and warning of this coming storm for the past week- and now- the National Weather Service is beginning to issue weather watches for the event.

It appears this storm will at least snowfall-total-wise- match or exceed the Christmas 2009 storm total.

WEST CENTRAL AND CENTRAL MISSOURI SUNDAY EVENING THROUGH MONDAY EVENING

.A COMBINATION OF TWO STORM SYSTEMS COMING TOGETHER OVER THE CENTRAL PART OF THE COUNTRY BY MONDAY IS EXPECTED TO LEAD TO HEAVY SNOW ACROSS THE LOWER MISSOURI RIVER VALLEY.

THE SNOW MAY BEGIN AS EARLY AS SUNDAY...BUT SHOULD NOT INCREASE IN INTENSITY UNTIL SUNDAY NIGHT AND MONDAY.
AT THIS TIME IT APPEARS THE HEAVIEST BAND OF SNOWFALL WILL BE SETTING UP ACROSS AREAS FROM KANSAS CITY TO MOBERLY MISSOURI... SOUTHWARD... ALTHOUGH NORTHERN MISSOURI IS EXPECTED TO SEE SNOWFALL FROM THIS EVENT AS WELL.
THE SNOW SHOULD TAPER OFF MONDAY EVENING.

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN KANSAS CITY/PLEASANT HILL HAS ISSUED A WINTER STORM WATCH...WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM SUNDAY EVENING THROUGH MONDAY EVENING.

* LOCATION...WILL BE FROM EAST CENTRAL KANSAS INTO WEST CENTRAL AND CENTRAL MISSOURI... MAINLY ALONG AND SOUTH OF A LINE FROM KANSAS CITY TO MOBERLY MISSOURI.

* TIMING...THE SNOW IS EXPECTED TO BE INCREASING ACROSS EAST CENTRAL KANSAS AND WEST CENTRAL MISSOURI SUNDAY EVENING...SPREADING EAST INTO CENTRAL MISSOURI SUNDAY NIGHT. ON MONDAY ANOTHER ROUND OF HEAVIER SNOW IS EXPECTED TO MOVE ACROSS THIS SAME AREA.

* TOTAL SNOW ACCUMULATIONS...ALTHOUGH THERE IS UNCERTAINTY ON THE EXACT SNOW AMOUNTS... WITH SUCH A LONG LIVED SNOW EVENT...THE POTENTIAL WILL BE THERE FOR SNOW AMOUNTS WELL IN EXCESS OF 6 INCHES.

* IMPACTS...TRAVEL WILL LIKELY BECOME EXTREMELY DIFFICULT WITH SUCH HEAVY SNOW AMOUNTS CREATING SNOW PACKED ROADWAYS. WINDS INCREASING OUT OF THE NORTH FOR A TIME MONDAY AFTERNOON AND MONDAY EVENING MAY ALSO CAUSE DRIFTING OF THE SNOW.
