Kansas City's New Mayor Sylvester 'Sly' James and His Court of Newly-Elected Jesters

Out of nearly one-half million Kansas Citians- slightly less than 70400 of them voted in a new mayor and council people on Tuesday.

That means around 150000 or so registered voters in KC-MO either didn't give a damn who won (and/) or could have cared less that there was an election.

The graphics are the vote totals- courtesy of news partner KSHB-41 NBC Action News.

If you don't see your council district graphics it's because that person ran unopposed.

Mayor-elect Sly James won 54% of that paltry vote total (38265) to Mike Burke's 46% vote total (32117).

South Kansas Citians apparently are satisfied with the downhill ride in the 6th District- re-electing In-District Statue John Sharp and Mr. Cathy "John Taylor" Jolly over Tracy Ward for the At-Large council seat.

Not much else changed city-wide either: if an incumbent ran again- they were re-elected no matter how bad the last City Council was.

One at-large council seat I didn't even vote for: 'Build A New Convention Hotel Tomorrow' Ford vs. 'Build A New Convention Hotel Last Week' Dillingham.

In fact- most of the council people elected are Friends of TIFs- that taxpayer-provided corporate welfare that has taxpayers and shoppers paying out of both ends.

I imagine most if not all the newly-elected want to continue Kansas City's Cash Cow known as the Earnings Tax and continue Gifts to Developers who will build future blight upon our landscape.

Kansas Citians gleefully look forward (NOT) to continually falling real estate worth but rising property taxes- rates- fees and corporate giveaways for the next 4 years.

Oh- and maybe a gleaming new convention hotel you wish you could afford to stay at.....

Mr. Cathy "John Taylor" Jolly! I see those two names and the figure Master Blaster comes to mind? Wonder which one is the brain.

Tracy,
I may not live on the Missouri side but you still have my support and I will keep telling my friends that you are the one they need in office.

I do so hope that you will try and run again Kansas City needs you.

The city council has been polling in the low 20s (approval ratings) for many years, and yet the incumbents and establishment clowns keep getting elected by large margins.

WHY?

My guess is that the poll-takers are asking a different group than who actually votes. The unions get out their vote, and they are a vital part of the Kansas City political machine. No doubt TIF lawyers don't forget to vote, too.
