Two-Alarm Fire at an Overland Park Apartment Complex Sunday Night

The fire was at the Autumn Park apartments near I-435 and Antioch around 6:30 p.m. Sunday night when- according to a Overland Park Fire department spokesperson Jason Rhodes- a carelessly discarded cigarette caught dry vegetation next to one of the buildings on-fire.

Low humidities and strong southerly winds helped the fire spread to and up the outside walls of the building and into the building's attic.

It took 10 companies of firefighters from OP- Lenexa and Fire District No. 2 to bring the fire under control about 50 minutes later.

No injuries were reported- and 16 apartment units in the building were affected by the fire.
