Shooting Injures Man Sunday Morning on KC-Independence MO Border

To cap-off (heh) a very busy pre-dawn Sunday morning- a 34-year-old man was reportedly shot twice in an incident that took place in far eastern KC-MO..

The shooting occurred around 2:40 a.m. in the area of U.S. 40 highway and Phelps Road- where an Independence officer found the victim.

The man had reportedly been shot through the back window of the vehicle he was in- and suffered 2 gunshot wounds to his right shoulder.

Around that same time- a vehicle crash came in to authorities in the 15000 block of East U.S. 40.

An "18-year-old pregnant female" suffered a minor "knee injury" in that crash- according to an AMR-EMS unit that ran the call "mutual-aid" for KC-MO's FD-EMS.

The driver refused EMS treatment or transport- and some reports were that this crash occurred as the couple was "trying to get away from the shooting."

Police haven't confirmed that aspect of this two-pronged incident.
