KC-MO Car Chase Ends in Overland Park

Suspects- a male and a female in a Ford truck- attempted to elude both Independence and KC-MO police late Tuesday afternoon- resulting in at least one crash in south KC-MO..

According to KSHB41 ActionNews- this chase began in Independence.

We were informed of the chase at 4:15 p.m.- as the suspects were driving northbound in the southbound lanes of U.S. 71/Watkins Expressway near 85th Street at speeds of "80 m.p.h.."

At 4:16 p.m.- the suspect's vehicle struck a vehicle that was southbound a few hundred yards south of 75th Street.

Injuries to the occupant of the struck vehicle- a "red Dodge" police said- were minor.

The Ford truck exits U.S. 71 at the southbound entrance ramp and chase continued west on 75th Street from U.S. 71- the suspects blowing through red traffic signals- to Troost- then southbound "at speeds around 80 m.p.h.."

The suspects turn west from Troost to Bannister (95th Street) Road at 4:23 p.m.- driving around stopped traffic at Holmes- and through red lights the whole way into Kansas.

It was at 4:27 p.m. when the suspects turned north off of 95th Street west of Linden into the Meadowbrook Golf course where the male ran.

The man- who the police believe is "part of" some "ring" then jumped into the lake on the south end of the golf course and attempted to swim away.

Officers from Independence and KC-MO as well as Leawood- Prairie Village and Overland Park KS surrounded the lake- and the suspect- said by police to be "Gary Wright-" swam out to awaiting handcuffs at 4:31 p.m..
