CSW Exclusive BREAKING: Fire Damages House in South KC-MO

Five companies of the KC-MO Fire department were called out at 11:38 a.m. Wednesday morning for a house fire in the 8600 block of Cambridge.

It was reported as the back of a house on fire- and when this CSW photographer got on-scene with the first arriving fire companies- heavy smoke was seen pouring from the 1-story structure.

Two handlines or "small streams" were used on the fire- which was knocked down and extinguished within 10 minutes of the fire department's arrival.

Neighbors say that a family of "squatters" were living in the house- which had no utilities.

In addition- another neighbor told CSW that he witnessed "a man with an engineer's hat and a toolbelt" on the property who had left prior to the fire department arriving.

The fire is being investigated as arson- and no one got hurt.

At 12:44 p.m.- many of the same fire companies who responded to this fire were called to another house fire in the 11700 block of Fremont in the Ruskin Heights area.

The latest fire was found to be "on the outside" of that house- with that situation quickly brought under control.
