CSW WEATHER: Major Winter Storm Begins Part 2- The Snow and The Blow

Part 1- the freezing drizzle and light freezing rain yesterday wasn't too bad- but here comes The Mother of Part 2 of this latest winter storm.

Snow and even thunder-snows are moving north and east out of Oklahoma this morning into southeastern Kansas and southwestern Missouri.

Snow has already begun in the southern Metro K.C. counties- Johnson and Miami in Kansas and Cass county MO...

The heavier areas of snow will move into Metro and MetroRegion Kansas City from the south and southwest during the day.

By late afternoon and evening- heavy snows- possibly with thunder- will have spread over the entire Metro- and we're still on track to get greater than 8-inches of the stuff.

How much more will unfold as the day goes on- but we'll also have increasing northeast to north winds and steady to dropping temperatures from the mid-20's now.

By tonight- we'll have bitter conditions- and lots of blowing and drifting snow and by Wednesday morning- we'll be digging out of this possible 8 to 16-inch whopper.

So if your going to work this morning- consider getting off by midday- the evening drive-time will be a bear.

I'll be here in the newsroom throughout the day- with images and radar pictures to chart the course of this possibly historic storm.

CSW BREAKING: Crashes Mount As Roads Ice Up in Metro Kansas City

As freezing drizzle continues to fall- there have been dozens of injury and non-injury wrecks around the Metro.

A KC-MO Fire pumper (42's)- responding to a school bus that had crashed into a utility pole- also slid into the crashed school bus near 107th Terrace and Indiana.

I believe there's been one minor injury on the school bus- but that hasn't been confirmed- but none of the firefighters were hurt.

There have been crashes on I-70 east of Kansas City- but so far no major delays or closures.

Crashes also occurred on I-435 in the Shawnee KS area- but so far no major injuries or delays.

The have also been dozens of people that have fallen on icy sidewalks- streets and parking lots.

Needless to say- extreme caution should be used walking outdoors- and of course while driving.

CSW WEATHER: Major- Possibly Historic Winter Storm for Central States Getting Underway

MetroRegion Kansas City Doppler weather radars are already beginning to light-up with precipitation echoes east to south of KC-MO..

Freezing drizzle has already been falling north along the I-29 corridor from Platte into Buchanan counties MO this morning- and now freezing drizzle and very light freezing rain has began falling in Johnson and Lafayette counties in Missouri- U.S. 50 to I-70 corridor.

Expect this trend to continue over the morning hours- spreading into Metro Kansas City within the next few hours.

Untreated surfaces will develop a thin ice-coating and become dangerous for walking or driving.

Later tonight the freezing stuff will change to snow- and continue through much of Tuesday.

Snow amounts of 8 to 15-inches are now forecast across eastern Kansas into central Missouri- including Metro Kansas City.

Blowing and drifting snow will become a serious issue by Tuesday night into Wednesday morning- along with dangerously-low wind chill temperatures.

Even urban travel will become difficult by those times and travel in open country should be re-considered after midday Tuesday into Wednesday morning.

This will include but is not restricted to Interstates 29- 35 and 70- as well as U.S. highways 36- 50- 65- 69 and 71 in MetroRegion Kansas City.

This will be a dangerous- and possibly historic storm in some areas of the Central States- please- plan accordingly!

Last Campfire For 3 Ozark Hills Residents Who Drown in The Niangua River

The coals of the campfire where 43-year-old Hubert "Eugene" Highfill- his 11-year-old son Jesse and his father-in-law 68-year-old David Dixon enjoyed some outdoor-cooked fish were still hot when the Highfill family launched their boat into the Niangua River to go "gigging."

Something happened on that river last Friday night- but the Missouri Water Patrol will never really know how 3 "experienced" fishermen's boat capsized.

According to the SPRINGFIELD NEWS-LEADER story- a Good Samaritan in the form of 68-year-old Doyle "Pete" Cowin- like the Highfills also from Fair Grove MO- died in an attempted rescue attempt.

A Missouri Conservation ranger on patrol found Cowin clinging to the overturned boat after nearly an hour in the water.

Eugene and Jesse Highfill and Grandpa Dixon's bodies were found Saturday morning deep in the river.

In Case You Haven't Been Paying Attention: Why Food Prices- Fuel Continues To Rise

Look at it being ONE WAY the government gets it's overweight population to slim down- raise the cost of food.

U(C)SA corn prices go up due to government-mandated ethanol blend in our gasoline and worldwide weather disasters on crops.

Meat prices due to more cost for corn feed and worldwide cattle shortages caused by See Pp 2-  according to this story in Sunday's DES MOINES REGISTER.

Fuel rises because OPEC is going to LET it rise- to pay for THEIR increased cost of imported food (not to mention loosely-regulated fuel-futures commodities trading- civil strife like Egypt).

Noose (rises too in taxes- fees- utilities) tightens on middle and lower-income Americans ... causing rising blood pressures (more unemployment- cuts).
