Baldwin City Arts Building Damaged By Fire

It took at least three outside fire departments to assist the Baldwin City Fire department to control a fire in a historic Baldwin City KS structure early Sunday morning.

The fire call went out at 4:12 am for a fire reported in the old Ives Hartley Lumber Company building at 718 High Street in downtown Baldwin City.

Fire crews from Palmyra and Willow Springs Townships as well as the Wellsville Fire department assisted Baldwin City as the structure was initially reported to be "fully-engulfed" in flames.

Reports from the scene however indicated only the back part of the building- being converted into space for a Baldwin City arts group- was damaged.

The fire was declared under control about an hour later- with no reports of injuries.

The cause was under investigation.
