Small Earthquake Shakes Southeastern Missouri Early Tuesday

A 4.0 magnitude earthquake shook southeastern Missouri less than two minutes before 4 a.m. CST Tuesday morning.

It was a shallow quake according to the USGS- only 3.1 miles below the earth's surface- and there have been no reports of any damage or injuries.

The area affected is near the New Madrid fault- which produced several devastating quakes in the early 1800's.
