R.I.P. James Arness - May 26, 1923- June 3, 2011

For 20 years- 1955 to 1975- James- Jim Arness- was in our living rooms as the larger-than-life fictional marshal of Dodge City Kansas- Matt Dillon.

Mr. Arness passed away in his Los Angeles area home early today at the age of 88 years.

Born James Aurness in Minneapolis- his brother was actor Peter Graves.

Peter Graves passed away last year.

Jim's series "Gunsmoke" is the longest-running TV drama series- and was a mainstay for the CBS television network- and one of my all-time favorite TV shows.

Gunsmoke and Rawhide well Route 66 are some of my earlest TV memories.

Well guess need to add Lawrence Welk and Sing Along With Mitch. Not saying these two were favorites by any means just remember them bing on a lot at the grandparents and care takers houses.

Sort of sad getting old and watching all those who you enjoyed and made you laugh all these years one by one slowly dying.

Oh yeah- to this day the theme song from Route 66 is still one of my fave road-trip tunes!

And don't forget Bonanza- I was lucky enough to meet Dan "Hoss" Blocker when I was a kid...

I TOTALLY hear ya' when it comes to seeing all the actors & actresses that were so much a part of our youth slowly dying off.

It can be (is) a biotch growing old SD.

HaHa- "Rico, Youngblood, go around back."

Speaking of the Steve Allen Show BTW- I had the honor of speaking to Steve Allen when he was on a Larry King radio show in the late 1980's.

What a HUGE talent Mr. Allen was- did you know he was a prolific songwriter too SD?

We've last some greats over the past 20 years indeed...
