If you think area cities give out TIFs to wealthy developers and corporations like candy- you are not far from the literal truth.
Raytown- Independence- Blue Springs- KC-MO- the list goes on and on and on...
In a cheerleader-type story in McClatchy's The SMITHVILLE HERALD- the writer tells of the possibilities of all these corporate retail giants POSSIBLY building a site at the proposed "Smithville Commons" shopping center.
What is NOT mentioned in all the cheerleading is the fact that Smithville Commons' developer- "J.D. Nelson-" received Tax Increment Financing (TIF) to build there- that fact was found on GOOGLE via the City of Smithville's Web site.
We'd like to improve our house before selling it- but we're hardly wealthy- could WE get a TIF too?
