If- like me- you think governments are "giving away the farm" to businesses to build in their jurisdictions- you are right-on...
Yet another story- this one in ReclaimDemocracy.org and written by Daniel McGraw 5 years ago- tells the tale in truths regarding corporate welfare.

Is it me or am I the only one with this idea:
Big company: Wants Tax break to build new location. Promises jobs, visitors that will spend money.
City: Ok.. but you'll provide 100 jobs with a minimum gross wage of 50K per year you'll keep those jobs for the next 10 years. You'll re-invest 5% of your sales at this location in community based projects (like schools). At the conclusion of the TIF period you'll pay an additional 1% in tax revenues. (Modify terms as necessary to fit example)
How a city (and St. Joseph is the worst) can give away the farm based on projections that can neither be confirmed or guaranteed is a stunning example of political ignorance at the expense of tax payers.
Woo Hoo bro tell it like it is.
I agree all snake oil smoky mirrors is how goverment works today.
They all have a dream it is just too bad the taxpayers don't have that same dream and are the ones who always have to pay for the politician’s stupidity.
