A Bittersweet Kansas City Primary Election

Even though more that a few of the candidates that I endorsed will advance to the Kansas City MO general election- I'm not feeling good about the turnout.

Less than 1 of 5 registered voters in this city even bothered to vote!

I'm sure those of you who DIDN'T bother have your reasons- but unless you had a recent accident and were in critical condition in a hospital I have little sympathy.

If indeed America is sliding downhill like some of us think it is- it all falls on the shoulders of those who do not bother to exercise one of their responsibilities to keep this republic- for which it stands- free.

In my Internet chatroom days- I recall my conversations with Australian friends and how they would tell me that in their country- people are actually FINED for not voting...

Maybe America has come to that crossroads as well.

Why people don’t vote anymore is beyond me.

I remember the days when the day came around to vote it was the subject of the day.

How do people expect change to happen if they won’t take the first step?

Tuesday February 22 was a great day to get out and vote. No rain, no blizzards. Mild temps as well as being a sunny day.

Maybe we need a visible marking system on people that shows they voted in the last election. It would be a marking system that would fade just prior to the next election.

Then when we hear someone complaining about how things are we can see if they even bothered to vote and if they did continue the conversation.

If they didn’t then you push them away and tell they to hush they have no right to speak out about who is in office and what is going on.

Yes indeedo!

Which makes to lean toward the Australian system of a fine for non-voters.

Hit 'em in the wallet if all else fails...

Good day to ya Superdave!

I'm with Superdave here. I don't understand not voting. I've been a steady voter since 1980.

People around the world stand in line to vote--why, risk their very lives to vote--and many times their elections are mere shadows of free elections.

While our system is not perfect, it is probably one of the cleanest election systems in the world. To not take advantage of our opportunity to pick who guides our community is a disgrace, and something of an insult to so many who have sacrificed for the voting franchise.

Yeah, I feel strongly about this topic!
