My feeling- after being in the news-gathering business for nearly 20 years- is that locally and nationally we're going to see an increase in general crime this summer.
Civil disturbances- shootings- stabbings- general assaults in particular- as well as a marked upturn in robberies and burglaries.
The economy is already in the toilet for a growing number of Americans and I think things will get even worse before it shows any signs of improvement.
I point to:
1) another spike in food prices come fall due to all the inclemate weather in the Farm Belt and
2) the pollys in Washington D.C. (Dead Cerebellums) continue to completely FAIL to bring ANY relief for high fuel & food prices to Americans.
Blame the Demoblicans AND the Republicrats as Bush does his Hoover imitation.
The tight money and continued loss of jobs is going to play Hell on Americans lives (already is)- and our society will respond in kind with the type of violence that is America's legacy.
