60th Anniversary Of Berlin Airlift Thursday

It was during the era when you were damn proud to be an American and- unlike the present White House occupant- you at least trusted President Harry S. Truman.

The Soviet Union's Joe Stalin tried to force the Allies out of war-divided Berlin- which was entirely inside the USSR's East Germany. Stalin shut off all forms of ground transportation- but even Stalin was smart enough not to challenge America's air superiority.

This Thursday marks 60 years when the Great Berlin Airlift started- where planes flown by American- British- Canadian- Australian- New Zealand and South African pilots saved Berlin from starving.

Many Germans fondly remember- and see hope in one of America's presidential candidates- according to this Associated Press article on the Berlin airlift anniversary.
