Metro Kansas City In A Winter Storm Watch Sunday

he NWS in Pleasant Hill has just issued a "Winter Storm Watch" that will affect Metro Kansas City and the northern half of the MetroRegion Sunday.

Here is the statement from NWS/Pleasant Hill:



A STRONG STORM SYSTEM WILL AFFECT MUCH OF NORTHEAST AND EAST CENTRAL
KANSAS AND MUCH OF THE NORTHERN ONE HALF OF MISSOURI LATE THIS
WEEKEND.




SIGNIFICANT AMOUNTS OF SNOW AND SLEET ARE POSSIBLE GENERALLY NORTH OF A LINE FROM THE KANSAS CITY AREA NORTHEAST TO CARROLLTON TO MACON.



THE TRACK OF THIS STORM SYSTEM IS STILL SOMEWHAT UNCERTAIN.



ANY CHANGE IN THE FORECAST TRACK WILL AFFECT SNOWFALL AMOUNTS AND PRECIPITATION TYPE.

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN KANSAS CITY/PLEASANT HILL HAS ISSUED A WINTER STORM WATCH...WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM SUNDAY MORNING THROUGH LATE SUNDAY NIGHT.


* LOCATION... EAST CENTRAL KANSAS AND WEST CENTRAL... NORTHWEST AND NORTHEAST MISSOURI.

* SNOW AND SLEET WILL DEVELOP SUNDAY MORNING FROM THE KANSAS CITY AREA EAST TO CARROLLTON AND MACON WITH SNOW MAINLY ALONG AND NORTH OF ROUTE 36 IN NORTHERN MISSOURI.
THE PRECIPITATION WILL CHANGE TO ALL SNOW BY SUNDAY EVENING WITH THE SNOW CONTINUING UNTIL AFTER MIDNIGHT SUNDAY NIGHT.
THERE MAY BE A BRIEF PERIOD OF FREEZING RAIN SUNDAY MORNING INTO EARLY SUNDAY AFTERNOON FROM THE KANSAS CITY AREA EAST TO MACON.
ICE ACCUMULATIONS WILL BE LESS THAN A TENTH OF AN INCH.

* SNOW/SLEET ACCUMULATIONS...TOTAL ACCUMULATIONS OF THREE TO SIX INCHES ARE LIKELY WITH LOCALLY HEAVIER AMOUNTS.

* IMPACTS...ROADS WILL LIKELY BECOME SLICK AND HAZARDOUS WITH SOME BLOWING AND DRIFTING OF THE SNOW SUNDAY AFTERNOON AND SUNDAY NIGHT.
