Popup Severe Thunderstorm Causes Damage In Liberty-MO

Liberty emergency services are stretched thin at this hour- after a severe thunderstorm with wind gusts "estimated around 70 miles per hour" struck Liberty just before 6 pm.

Part of the roof of at least one and possibly two apartment buildings were torn off in the Wilshire complex (see image) in the 200 block of Belmont.

Residents have been evacuated from 209 Belmont and at 7 pm- were being "allowed back in" to 217 Belmont.

Police also confirmed a convenience store's roof damaged when a power pole and transformer fell on it.

Police and fire department units report "numerous tree limbs and power lines down"- mostly in that part of Liberty to the east of I-35 from south of M-152 north to M-291.

An unknown- but large number of Liberty residents are without power- as heat indices again rise to the upper-90's to around 100-degrees.

No injuries have been reported as a direct result of the storm.

Within twenty-five minutes after the storm initially produced damage- the storm had nearly dissipated just north of Liberty.
