This "drill"- with the simultanous sounding of local-area tornado warning sirens- will be conducted Tuesday at 1:30 p.m..
In the event of thunderstorms and/or the possibility of severe weather- the drill for that area will NOT take place as to not confuse the public.
On March 13 is the 20th anniversary of what is called the "Hesston KS Tornado."
That F-5 twister struck Hesston in the late afternoon- but caused no fatalities in the south-central Kansas town of just more than 3000 people.
A child was killed west of Hesston when a chimney sent bricks falling into the basement where the child's family had taken refuge.
The images show the various appearances of the tornado itself- including a shot of the multiple vortices- just prior to and then actually striking Hesston.
A second tornado that formed just northeast of Hesston that afternoon that actully ingested this first tornado is considered by many meteorologists as one of the strongest F-5 tornadoes on record.
The 2nd tornado then killed an elderly woman in a farmhouse near Burrton.
