Owning a Profitable Corporation- Why Does David Glass Need Taxpayer Welfare?

The KANSAS CITY BUSINESS JOURNAL recently published a story about the worth and profits of the Kansas City Royals (pro?) baseball team.

Glass' team makes him money- more so this year since the team let some high-priced talent go.

Glass also benefits from the $2-million that the KC-MO City Clowncil recently gave the county for "stadium upkeep-" although taxpayers are footing the nearly half-BILLION dollar bill for recently-completed renovations to Kauffman and Arrowhead stadiums.

Please vote to KEEP the KC-MO Earnings Tax April 5- in order for the city to keep providing welfare to million/billionaires (sports team owners- corporations- builders- developers- etc.) while YOU scrap to afford your utilities and nutritious dinner of peanut butter and crackers- etc..

CSW BREAKING: KC-MO Fire- Haz-Mat Crews Investigate "Suspicious Package" at I.R.S. Building

At 8:21 a.m.- several KC-MO Fire companies as well as Haz-Mat were sent to the Downtown I.R.S. building at 2600 Broadway on the report of an "unknown substance leaking from a package" at a receiving unit there.

Employees deep inside the I.R.S. center were unaware of anything going on when called by CSW about 8:30 a.m..

The emergency responder crews put the "wet" package and an envelope inside a baggie and removed it from the building and there were evacuations of employees in the immediate area where the suspicious mail was found.

As of 8:51 a.m.- the situation was under control- with fire and Haz-Mat crews returning to service with no injuries reported.

An investigation of the incident is underway.

Monday Morning Potpourri

It's a cloudy and cool late March morning as some Kansas Jayhawk fans rise fitfully to face a Blue Monday.

It's like anything in life though- you REALLY have to want it to get it....

The 3 homicides locally this weekend didn't occur on my watch.

Still- the 2 murders in KC-MO and the one killing in KC-KS is too much- maybe this will start a little political lip-service but even that's doubtful.

If it don't affect people- they really don't care all that much.

Got a Tweet over the weekend from our favorite council candidate Tracy Ward- lamenting why people aren't upset over America's involvement in Libya's "civil war."

I replied that people won't get upset until today- tonight specifically- when President Obama addresses the nation on the matter.

Why- people will miss some or all of their Monday night TV fare is what's upsetting.

Americans don't care enough to vote mostly- so a little air-action against a dictator is far from most folk's radar screens.

See above: If it don't affect people- they really don't care all that much.

Libya's uprising has caused fuel prices to rise- THAT'S what's more upsetting to Americans when their wallet is raided.

Japan continues to suffer the aftershocks and math of their historic earthquake and tsunami.

That Japanese corporation TEPCO (Tokyo Electric Power COmpany) is a poster child for anything that can go wrong for a corporation and the citizens that rely upon it will go wrong.

TEPCO has mismanaged the damaged nuclear power plant issue from Day 1- their officials REALLY ought to consider Hari-Kiri as the only honorable issue left.

In America- corporate giant Walmart faces off on a possibly expensive sex discrimination lawsuit poised to go before America's Supreme Court.

I think the Supremes will favor Walmart- since as with election contributions the court favors Corporate America.

But- like I've said here before- If it don't affect people- they really don't care all that much.

Fire Guts Building in Warrensburg MO

It took more than an hour for Warrensburg firefighters to get a fire in a Central Missouri University residence building under control Sunday morning.

The initial fire alarm came in at 3:34 a.m. for a fire in "the Greenwood Community building" in the 900 block of South Washington.

When a police officer arrived at 3:46 a.m.- flames were showing from the 2-story structure.

By 3:55 a.m.- there's reportedly "a working fire in the basement" there- with "evacuations underway" of nearby apartments.

At least 1 outside fire company from a Johnson county MO department was called to the scene- with other units standing by in empty Warrensburg stations.

It wasn't until 5:05 a.m. when the fire was reportedly "knocked down" and under control.

There haven't been any reports of injuries- and the state fire marshall was called to the scene to investigate a cause of the fire.

Officers arrived to find two teenaged males- one from each vehicle- with several gunshot wounds.

Central States News: Federal Radio Mandate Has Iowa Emergency Agencies Sweating

Local and state governments nationwide are scrambling to come up with money to buy new radio systems- a Federal mandate effective in 2013.

In the worst "recession (depression) since the Great Depression of the 1930's- the Federal radio mandate requires funds many agencies simply do not have without additional tax & fee rises.

In Iowa- the unfunded Federal mandate is creating some real budgetary issues- as reported by the DES MOINES (IA) REGISTER.

KC-MO Police Say Homicide on East Side

Saturday afternoon the body of a black female was found on the front porch of an East Side house- and police have 2 suspects in custody.

Police were called to the address in the 5600 block of East 27th Terrace around 3:10 p.m.- where they found the woman's body- showing obvious signs of trauma- after they arrived.

A KSHB scene photo shows the radio tower for the East Patrol police station in the background.

Police arrested 2 people at the scene of the crime- "persons of interest" as they now call suspects.

The deceased woman's identity hasn't been released yet.

CSW Weather: Spring Vs. Winter in Metro- MetroRegion Kansas City- Part 1

The National Weather Service (NWS) in Pleasant Hill- covering Metro Kansas City- has issued a "Winter Weather Advisory" from 2 p.m. Saturday until 1 a.m. Sunday for Missouri counties JUST east of Metro Kansas City.

Areas generally along and east of a Chillicothe- Polo- Orrick- Odessa- Holden to Clinton line are forecast to receive anywhere from 2 to 5 inches of- ahem- snow.

Yes- snow- my friends- 5 days into spring...

Anyway you cut it- it's going to mostly be a cold and wet weekend and next week- and it doesn't look like we'll return to even 60-degree readings until next Friday- April Fools Day.

Soon- KMBZ's Right-Wingnuts Can Be Heard on Kansas City FM

Corporate radio broadcasting companies do so little to serve the local populace that I'm surprised many of them manage to keep the licenses of the stations they own.

With shockingly few exceptions- try getting local breaking news or weather late nights or weekends on ANY local AM or FM.

Enter Entercom- who has announced the "soft rock" we knew and sometimes loved on KUDL-FM will be taken over as KMBZ-FM where all the wingnut talkers will be simulcast on 98.1mhz.

I guess Entercom figures that the AM side doesn't pollute Kansas City airwaves enough- now we have to endure the SAME schlock on the FM side in the place of relaxing music.

Oh BTW- this from a friend who actually listens to 'BZ- he says the new morning wingnut who took Beck's place "sucks- doesn't know what he's talking about."

I wouldn't know- the ONLY talker anywhere I listen to is Rick Barber on KOA-850AM in Denver- so I can gladly surrender the 98.1 spot on my FM tuner to another radio station now.

CSW BREAKING: "Homicide" in Lenexa KS

The KC-MO Police department issued a pick-up for a male suspect "in a homicide that just occurred in Lenexa near  87th Street and Lenexa Drive" at 7 p.m. Wednesday evening.

A "47-year-old woman" was shot and killed in a construction zone- according to Lenexa Police- and that the shooting "didn't appear to be a random" incident.

It was later determined that the woman was shot and killed by her "estranged husband-" who was later found dead of an apparently "self-inflicted gunshot" in KC-MO..

Police and Johnson County sheriff's deputies closed Lenexa Drive north of 87th Street for almost 10 hours after the shooting.

Kansas City's New Mayor Sylvester 'Sly' James and His Court of Newly-Elected Jesters

Out of nearly one-half million Kansas Citians- slightly less than 70400 of them voted in a new mayor and council people on Tuesday.

That means around 150000 or so registered voters in KC-MO either didn't give a damn who won (and/) or could have cared less that there was an election.

The graphics are the vote totals- courtesy of news partner KSHB-41 NBC Action News.

If you don't see your council district graphics it's because that person ran unopposed.

Mayor-elect Sly James won 54% of that paltry vote total (38265) to Mike Burke's 46% vote total (32117).

South Kansas Citians apparently are satisfied with the downhill ride in the 6th District- re-electing In-District Statue John Sharp and Mr. Cathy "John Taylor" Jolly over Tracy Ward for the At-Large council seat.

Not much else changed city-wide either: if an incumbent ran again- they were re-elected no matter how bad the last City Council was.

One at-large council seat I didn't even vote for: 'Build A New Convention Hotel Tomorrow' Ford vs. 'Build A New Convention Hotel Last Week' Dillingham.

In fact- most of the council people elected are Friends of TIFs- that taxpayer-provided corporate welfare that has taxpayers and shoppers paying out of both ends.

I imagine most if not all the newly-elected want to continue Kansas City's Cash Cow known as the Earnings Tax and continue Gifts to Developers who will build future blight upon our landscape.

Kansas Citians gleefully look forward (NOT) to continually falling real estate worth but rising property taxes- rates- fees and corporate giveaways for the next 4 years.

Oh- and maybe a gleaming new convention hotel you wish you could afford to stay at.....
