Last night- Raytown's elected "council" The Board of Aldermen- shot down a proposal to ban smoking in that western Jackson county city.
Good for them!
This is America dammit- if a business wants to have someone smoking a fully LEGAL PRODUCT inside their establishment- it should be that business owner's right to decide.
Or the customer's decision whether or not to do business there.
I'm sure someday- the "health Nazis" will totally get their way and none of us will do anything that in any way shape or form is a detriment to our health.
I hope I'm dead by then!

A smoking ban means, it will be against the law to use or oermit a legal product on 'private' property.
Is this the American way??
A Health issue??
smoke fom tobacco in a decently ventilated venue is a statistically insignificant health risk
It is clear that separation of smokers from non-smokers combined
with air exchange technology is a complete solution to this largely
artificial problem. All it takes is regulating authorities setting the
standards for indoor air quality on passive smoke, and the technology
does the rest. Such air quality standards are common in industrial
and environmental contexts. But, to date, no country in the world has
set them for smoking areas. It seems clear that the reasons are not
scientific, nor are they economic or technical: they are political.
As to the annoyance of smoking, a compromise between smokers and non-smokers
can be reached, through setting a quality standard and the use of modern
ventilation technology.
Air ventilation can easily create a comfortable environment that removes not
just passive smoke, but also and especially the potentially serious
contaminants that are independent from smoking.
If you're on medicare, medicaid or VA benefits, if you're on welfare, or WIC, or section 8 housing, you should be banned from smoking, drinking or driving without a seatbelt. I'm paying for your healthcare, and that means no smoking. If you want to smoke, pay your own way.
On the issue of smoking, Capt??? Geoffrey said, "I'm sure someday- the "health Nazis" will totally get their way and none of us will do anything that in any way shape or form is a detriment to our health.

Capt?? Geoffrey, if you are a smoker I'm sure you will be dead, definitely, from lung cancer. That's not my concern. What is my concern is who you will be taking with you from your second-hand smoke!
