NWS: "POTENTIAL FOR A SIGNIFICANT IF NOT CRIPPLING ICE STORM" In K.C. MetroRegion

That's what an afternoon forecast discussion from the Pleasant Hill office of the National Weather Service stated.

The fun is scheduled at this time to begin in the area of Saturday night- continuing off and on through at least next Tuesday. We are forecast to be under a cold Arctic air mass- with temperatures "just below freezing" through early next week.

Then- with an increasingly warmer tropical airmass above the surface cold air with several pressure disturbances rolling by will produce the precipitation.

I rarely see the NWS use such serious language this far out from the actual event. I continue to hedge on my outlook to this event for at least another day or two- as early indications were that this upcoming storm system would act much as last weekend's.

Of course I'll update here and try to keep it small- non-red font for ALAP... (bfg)
