Jackson County MO Sheriff's Department Bills Cities For Dispatching

F
or as long as anybody can remember- the Jackson County Sheriff's department has dispatched calls for free for police departments in Metro cities such as Oak Grove- Grain Valley- Buckner- Greenwood and Lone Jack.

According to this story in the LEE'S SUMMIT (MO) JOURNAL- suddenly and without warning- these cities that were provided that free dispatch service received a bill in the mail from ... the Jackson County sheriff.

Not only that- but these "surprise" bills for dispatching services are due in about 2 months- and those cities are scrambling to find either monies to pay that bill or to come up with alternatives.

Perhaps the cities should contract with the Sheriff's Office for their law enforcement services. They might be better served. The Sheriff's Office could absorbed their existing officers into the Office.

That's not a good idea. Jackson County tends to try and stir up trouble in Independence and KC. They do not have a good reputation with local PD. Most smalls cities like OG, GV, and Buckner tend to try and have community policing that focuses on the good instead of the bad. Jackson County also has a problem with supervising its patrol deputies, which in turn leads to horse play and breaking regulation and policy. Small cities need a local PD who can relate to the community and who only serve for that community and build a good reputation.
