KANSAS CITY Metro WEATHER: Winter Storm Watch Late Tuesday

The NWS offices mentioned in the early winter storm post have expanded that watch southward.

The MetroRegion counties on this image (click to enlarge) coloured in blue are now under Winter Storm Watches- beginning at different times Tuesday.

As you see- the entire Kansas City Metro is now included.

The NWS in Pleasant Hill says- at this time- light snow- sleet and/or freezing drizzle is expected by tomorrow afternoon. By evening- snow will predominate- becoming moderate to heavy.

There is even the chance for thundersnows- especially in the extreme southern counties included in the winter storm watch. Snowfall could be very heavy when this occurs.

This is reflected in the NWS' statement: "MODERATE TO SIGNIFICANT SNOW ACCUMULATIONS... POSSIBLY EXCEEDING SIX INCHES... ARE POSSIBLE ACROSS THE WATCH AREA BEFORE ENDING BY DAYBREAK WEDNESDAY.

Temperatures reached the mid-70's in southern parts of Metro K.C. today- including here at the news center- but have fallen 20 degrees in the past hour.

Temperatures tomorrow will struggle just above the freezing mark until a 2nd surge of cold air meets the snow late Tuesday.
