*** DEATH BY GUNSHOT IN BALDWIN CITY-KS ***


*** The incident was reported at 3:02am in the 200 block of Baker Street- a person with a gunshot wound to the head- possibly dead.

Paramedics declared that victim deceased about 15 minutes later- but there were no details available yet as to circumstances: whether this was a suicide or homicide.

** THREE ALARM APARTMENT BUILDING FIRE IN LAWRENCE-KS **


*** A 3-alarm fire has seriously damaged a Lawrence-KS apartment building early Saturday morning- but as of this report only one minor injury was reported.

The alarm came in at 6:01am in the 2000 block of Heatherwood Drive. The dispatcher reported that people were trapped on balconies of the 3-story building.


When the fire chief arrived less than 5 minutes after the call was received- he reported heavy smoke showing and requested the 2nd- then 3rd alarms be sounded.


Rescues of all persons trapped on their balconies were successful- without injury. One person was reported with smoke inhalation around 6:50am- but the injury was not life-threatening.


The fire had not yet been reported under control as of this report.

** SERIOUS INJURIES IN KC-MO WRECK **

... Three people reportedly had to be extricated from a 1-car crash at Truman Road and Paseo at 4:30am Saturday morning.

At least two people had serious to critical injuries- and were taken to a nearby trauma center.

<><><> OVERNIGHT WEATHER <><><>


Temperatures fell to below zero for the first time this Winter 2007-08 season in the Kansas City MetroRegion overnight.

Below zero temperatures have been reported in Topeka and Lawrence-KS- as well as St. Joseph- Maryville and Chillicothe-MO- as low as 9 degrees below zero at St. Joe this morning.

Skies were clear and winds were light northwesterly- producing wind chills as low as -15 below zero.

Sunshine and cold today and Sunday- with another winter storm possible Monday. It does not appear to warm above freezing all next week.
