Last night's heavy thunderstorms caused damage throughout Metro Kansas City in the form of downed trees- tree limbs- power lines and some roofs damaged.
Nearly 3-inches of rain fell in parts of Shawnee KS during the storm- causing a dramatic rise on area streams of about 6 feet but no flooding.
High winds damaged the roof on an Overland Park KS Public Works building- damaging several trucks parked under it.
Around 12:30 a.m. Wednesday morning- Independence MO Fire responded on the report of smoke coming from the roof of Englewood Ministries church in the 10600 block of East Winner Road.
Reportedly- lightning had struck the roof of the church during the storm a couple of hours earlier and the fire had smouldered until it was detected.
Fire crews kept the fire damage limited to the roof area- but smoke and water damage was reported elsewhere in the church's interior.
No injuries were reported with a preliminary damage estimate in the several thousand dollar range..
