CSW BREAKING UPDATE: Injury Reported At House Fire In Camden MO

This is an update to the previous CSW BREAKING story...

Mark (a big thanx!) from the Richmond MO Fire Department tells CSW that the house fire with a reported handicapped person trapped inside is on "Back Street in Camden" MO which is southwest of Richmond on State highway T.

Lifeflight-Eagle 2 medical helicopter is at the scene to retrieve the injured person- and we'll post that information here as soon as it is received.

The firefight is on-going in snow flurries and single-digit temperatures.

UPDATE - 1443 CST: As of this time- I have NOT heard any transport of a patient from this fire scene by Lifeflight-Eagle 2....

Richmond Fire Department Release:

At 13:03 on 1/8/10, Richmond Fire was dispatched to a reported structure fire on Back St. in Camden, and that the structure was occupied.

Upon arrival on the scene, Richmond Fire found heavy smoke, heat and fire through the structure. Immediate search and rescue operations were initiated, and conditions inside the structure were found to be such that they could not be survived.

A victim was located in the structure in the area that had been the kitchen, just through the doorway from the livingroom. The floor was collapsed in this area. The victim was later identified as Clarence Baum, Jr. who was the resident and owner of the structure.

Freezing temperatures caused equipment and vehicle problems, but firefighting operations were not negatively impacted. Richmond Fire was assisted at the scene by Lawson Fire, Orrick Fire, Wood Heights Fire, Ray County Coroner’s Office, Lifeflight-Eagle, Ray County Sheriff’s Department, Ray County Ambulance District and the Missouri State Fire Marshal’s Office.

An investigation of the fire determined that the fire started under the floor of the ground level of the structure, in the crawl space. The livingroom floor was completely burned away in this area. There was a floor furnace located in this area, as well as heat lamps to keep the water pipes from freezing, and these cannot be eliminated as the cause of the fire. The fire likely burned for longer than an hour before it was detected. There were no smoke detectors found in the residence.

Richmond Fire cleared the scene at 16:34.
