You Can BUY Them Here- But Don't LIGHT Them Here

No- no- I'm not talking about society's hypocrisy with tobacco products- I'm talking about Jackson County-MO fireworks.

Our non-ethically-bound county legislature has approved the SALE of fireworks in Jackson County but- the KANSAS CITY STAR story notes- you cannot LIGHT those fireworks if local laws do not allow.

And local laws don't even allow fireworks to be shot-off in unincorporated Jackson County- but hey- you'll be able to BUY the gunpowder goodies there.

Uh-huh....

It seems like Independence Day has degenerated into "blow stuff up" day. I hardly think some goofball with more money than sense trying to set off a string of 1000 firecrackers is thinking about honoring the patriots who gave their lives for our country.

I bet if you gave a 5th grade level test on the American Revolution as a prerequisite for all fireworks purchases that a majority of people would leave empty handed.

As always- good point Mark.

BUT- I'd rather the uneducated leave "empty-handed" that know their stuff- get the explosives and have NO hand. (sly grin)

Maybe too we can "blow-up" some ethics among county legislators....
