Winter-Type Storm Indicated Around Thanksgiving

Some of my operational weather models continue to show a winter storm developing in the Central States by mid next week.

Precipitation may begin as early as Tuesday in the warm sector of this storm- and that will include the Kansas City MetroRegion.

Next Wednesday- the storm that continues to deepen over Missouri or a nearby Mid- Mississippi Valley location- will swing cold air around the storm's backside along with precipitation- which will include the MetroRegion.

New model runs continue to re-enforce this winter storm scenario. Travel by Thanksgiving morning throughout the Kansas City MetroRegion could become quite hazardous.

In addition- those of you flying- particularly into or through Chicago's O'Hare- could experience flight delays or cancellations Wednesday. Advice here is to begin ground or air travel Monday or Tuesday.

The storm should exit the Central States to the northeast by Friday- and the weekend after Thanksgiving looks okay weather-wise at this time.

In summary- the present long-range forecasts are for a winter storm in the Kansas City MetroRegion next Wednesday- and another possible the week after Thanksgiving as well.

I'll update here throughout the next several days on this developing weather situation.
