**FALSE ALARM AT K.U. RESIDENCE HALL INJURES LAWRENCE FIREFIGHTER**
What resulted to be someone playing with a fire extinguisher - perhaps an April Fool's Day prank - caused injury to a Lawrence, KS. firefighter early Sunday morning.
The automatic alarm at Naismith Hall- 1800 Naismith Drive- came in at 2:28 a.m.. First arriving fire companies were told by residents of smoke on the 5th-floor of the 9-story structure.
As firefighters use stairs to carry up their equipment - one of them suffers chest pains and becomes short-of-breath at the 4th-floor level. He was taken to Lawrence Memorial hospital in stable condition.
The scene commander then orders more equipment- a "2nd-alarm" - at 2:34 a.m.. Within the next 10 minutes- it's determined the "smoke" was residue in the air due to someone discharging a dry-chemical fire extinquisher.
While searching each room with occupants not accounted for in the evacuation- firefighters found 2 students "passed-out" in their rooms on the 2nd & 6th-floors.
Those people were taken from the building and turned over to friends until firefighters cleared the structure- and the scene- at 3:48 a.m..

***OVERNIGHT WEATHER***
The cloud cover that produced a few showers when Sunday began have mostly moved east of the KC Metro by dawn.
A cool front has moved through and turned winds to the west- dropping morning low temperatures to the coldest values in a little more than a week - into the mid-40's in some places in the Northland.
Temperatures will recover to the 80-degree mark for Monday's Royal's baseball season opener.
Then a stronger cold front will sweep through the MetroRegion by noon Tuesday - bringing a chance for showers and/or thunderstorms upon it's passage.
More importantly- temperatures will only be at or up to 10 degrees colder than normal this coming week- with a chance of a morning freeze by mid-week.
Temperatures will recover to the levels that have spoiled us by next weekend.
