For those of us who think this fractured burg needs some speedy and reliable public transit infrastructure- this story Saturday in the Independence/Blue Springs/Grain Valley EXAMINER is welcome with wary eyes.
As shown on the enlarged (click-on-it) graphic-map- the routes shown cover Jackson- Platte and Clay counties in Missouri- with a westward spur through KC-KS to near the Kansas Speedway NASCAR racetrack.
Note there are no routes shown into Johnson County-KS..
The article states Jackson County Exec Sanders says this all can be done for around a billion dollars which I view with wary eyes.

That should make it very fast and easy to hop on an inner city train, rob someone in Oak Grove, and be home in time to buy some week by supper time.
Ha! Guess what, criminals have cars. If they want to steal your 50 inch flat screen TV they will drive out to the O.G. to do it, not take a train.
As for Johnson County, no trains are planned to go there because the Johnson County government has chosen not to participate in the regional plan...
My suspicions would be aroused anyway if I saw anybody carrying a not new-in-the-box 50-inch TV on a commuter train...
I'd not drive all the way to OG for 5-finger electronics anyway- almost-completely-paved-over JoCo is MUCH closer and that's where all the $$$ is....
Cheers-

Ask people living along the new US 71 highway if crime went up or down along the route. The same thing will happen along the train routes.
Anyone who has lived in a metro with lots of rail travels knows it is only beneficial...crime paranoia is totally unfounded....you will find more business and working people than anyone else riding.. and the economic development near the stops is amazing and wonderful. look at the Twin cities they are going like crazy adding onto their new system and atanta is expanding too... chicago is doing well because of it!
