Police initally found only 1 victim- and he was taken to Truman Medical Center-West (TMC/West) because the University of Kansas (KU) Medical Center was "closed to trauma" patients.
Over the next several hours- the other 3 victims showed up at hospitals on their own- 2 went to TMC/West and the other showed up at "closed" KU Med Center.
Maybe the 3 shooting victims that ended up at TMC were KC-MO residents- that I do not know.
Nor do I know if the victims were able to pay for their treatment or filed as indigents.
What I DO know working news in this town for more than 15 years is that this is not an isolated case.
Johnson County and Wyandotte counties have only 1 certified trauma center each- Overland Park Regional for JoCo and KU Med Center for WyCo.
If one or both of those trauma centers are closed- chances are patients will end up at a KC-MO trauma center- Research- St. Luke's Plaza or TMC/West.
If a Kansas resident ends up at TMC and can't pay? We're stuck.

Well if you do the math, the Dot and JoCo aren't really stepping up to the plate.
On the MO side, you have for trauma centers:
Liberty
North Kansas City
Truman
St. Luke's on the Plaza
Research
Children's
and Centerpoint
So you have 7 on the MO side, and two on the Kansas side. And since all the ghetto stabbings go to Truman, the county gets soaked for the care.
Thanks KCK! It's not enough to rob people in KCMO explicity, you get to rob us in this underhanded way too!
Thanks for the complete Metrowide list of trauma E-R's.
K.U. took a bad hit when Bethany closed and JoCo likewise when St. Joseph closed their trauma center E-R.
JoCo has several options for another- Olathe being the most logical.
WyCo only 1 option- Providence.
Not likely to see any new ones open however- unless they get government subsidies.
