Pundits wring their hands this morning trying to figure out why the light rail question on yesterday's ballot failed.
All sorts of reasons are pondered EXCEPT one: the Council's overturning of an earlier voter-approved light rail plan.
Nothing hacks off the populace like having their jury verdicts or election results overturned- and this was generally the feeling of the many folks I spoke with regarding light rail in Kansas City.
It didn't help wanting to add 3/8 of a cent to already stiff sales taxes and the fact the current light rail plan wasn't fully baked.
Plus the city is facing a sewer bill of up to 4 billion dollars.
All that's left is the logical step: EXPAND bus service- number of busses and hours of operation. Four-dollar-per-gallon gas WILL return someday.
And to the City Council- don't overturn voter mandates and come up with a piece-of-plan and expect the voters to approve it.
